I am beyond confused at this point is all I can say. I've been to doctors who say I have seizures and then they say i don't. This entire time I've never been on any anti-seizure meds or anything for that matter but things keep happening. So yet again, another new episode has popped up and my doctor thinks they may be seizures (I have an appointment with an internist in a couple of weeks? Never seen one of those before).

New year Eve is when it happened and got me to book an appoint with the doc. Although in hindsight i think they started a few months earlier. I started to feel off and just 'weird' all of a sudden (which is what i was feeling the months leading up to new years eve). It's hard to describe but ill try: its like I'm here but not really, I feel a little loopy/tired, keep getting moments where it feels like you're falling asleep for a split second and then waking up, thing kind of seem strange, and I just overall feel uncomfortable. So that I was getting on and off and it would usually last a half hour or so. but then on new years eve while I was at work it happened. I usually just kind of try to work through it because I know it'll eventually pass kind of thing but this time I felt the sudden need to sit down. So I sat in the office. I literally felt like I was going to pass out or something my ears were kind of ringing, i felt dizzy, and I didn't feel fully with it. My boyfriend stayed in the office with me (we work together). He said I looked out of it. He would try talking to me but he said I would just kind of look at him and not say anything. I remember the whole thing so I didn't lose consciousness. Afterwards I was super tired and he had to finish my shift for me while I sat in the office. I also had a small headache afterwards too (small enough I didn't need advil). So I thought it was just a one time thing but no it kept happening throughout these past weeks. Sometimes I don't get to the point where I need to sit but other times I do. The buildup is the same every time (that weird feeling) and if it gets to the point where I need to sit I get tired after and get a small headache.

I'm just so confused as to whats going on. If these are seizures, why are they randomly popping up and why do I keep getting 'new' or 'different' episodes?

Well, that's sort of the nature of seizures -- they're unpredictable, and they can change over time, especially if they are untreated. Does the "weird feeling" feel like an odd sensation rising from your stomach? Does it feel like unexplained fear or dread? The split-second-falling-asleep-almost sensation sounds like a sort of partial seizure I experienced, almost like my brain was keeping two stories going at once, dipping in and out of the "dream" one.

If you are having partial seizures (where you have impaired awareness but don't lose consciousness) they can be tricky to diagnose. For this reason, it's important that you see an epilepsy specialist -- not a g.p., or even a non-specializing neurologist -- if at all possible. And have your boyfriend come to the appointment with you, so that he can provide corroboration of what's happened, and a description of how you seem during an episode. While it's possible that something else is going on, it would be great to rule epilepsy in or out sooner rather than later.

Hi Kyla,

I'm no Dr. but it sounds like you may be having absence seizures like I have. I will feel fine then all of the sudden I'm out of it and when I come around I'm confused, tired, and sometimes I have a headache. Start keeping track of these possible seizures get a calendar and write down what time it happened along with a description of the possible seizure. I often have them when the hormones are changing each month or if I'm over tired and stressed out those are 2 of the main things that can trigger seizures. Try to cut back on the carbs and starch foods and see if that helps. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sounds a little like presyncope ... something to look up and ask your doctor about if you agree some of your symptoms fit this.

My simple partials are best described as "weird feelings"--they're a strange sensation in my head. They weren't even diagnosed as seizures until I had one during an EEG.

I've had epilepsy for 14 years and over about the last two years I've started having seizures where I'm really confused about the time of day. I'm not sure if it's an aura because I'll remember it happening the whole time or if it's the actual seizure because I don't remember it happening or if it's when I'm coming out of the seizure. I'll try to explain one if I can.

I get my AM's and PM's mixed up when I look at the clock. I know it says 2 but I'll think it's 2am when it's really 2pm, so I think I should be in bed and go get in bed. If my husband's home I'll tell him I'm going to bed and if he's not I'll just get in myself. Sometimes I won't go completely go into the seizure (just have an aura) and I'll come to before I get in bed and realize what time it actually is and other times I'll come out of the seizure in bed with all my clothes on.

Just last night I saw the clock said 10 so I started to get in bed, I usually don't get up till after 10 in the morning. I came to with one leg laid over the bed and I was pulling up the covers and saw that I had my jeans and t-shirt on instead of my pj's and it was dark out instead of light. All the lights were on in the house too so I must have gone around turning them on, which I don't remember doing, when I thought I was actually turning them off.

thanks everyone for the help and advice. I went to a doctor of internal medicine and she abruptly came out and was like 'you have seizures' so I'm off to get another EEG (I've had 2 already and they came back normal) and officially lost my license.
