For quite a few months now, i've been very depressed and down, and it's been hard to keep going instead of burying my head in the sand.

Anyhoo, my doc has been offering anti-depressants (sp?) for a while. I've been putting it off, but now i really feel like i need some help.

I know that quite a few people on this site take them, but i was wondering if they interfere with meds, or if they make you feel really dopey and stuff. I take Lamictal, and is there any specifically i should avoid?

Not sure if this is in the right place...

Hello, :hello:
I don't recommend taking Citalopram with Lamictal because I just found out today by the pharmacist that they don't mix well together. Citalopram is great on it's own because in the past I took them for about 3 years to treat my depression. I was put back on them before finding out I had epilepsy and still am on them but they are making me feel awful now I am on Lamictal too. Next year my Neurologist is hoping to change me to a new anti-depressant tablet. I hope this helps.
Kind regards
Debbie

Hello

Thats one thing i need to remember then :P I'm not going to be able to see my doc til monday now i think. It's so hard to get an appointment on saturdays.

I've never had anti-depressants before, but i think that this time i should certainly give them a go. I could do without being any more fuzzy in the head though.

He, he I just love those smiley faces. Just be careful about which anti-depressant your doctor put's you on. I am not against them at all but some people react differently to tablets. In the past before taking Citalopram (didn't have E. then) I was put on another tablet and that was awful. Sorry I can't remember the name because I only took them for two days. I woke up feeling as though I had a hang over. I couldn't see nor walk properly (kept walking into the wall etc and there was no way I could have gone to work). Comes to think about it, it could have been a seizure, but that was 8 years ago and I have only just been diagnosed with E. this July after having my first Tonic-clonic in March. Hmm! If you have any side effects from your anti-depressants you must go and see you doctor as soon as. I will, when they change mine next year. Keep us updated.

My wife takes both Lexapro (very similar to citalopram) and Keppra. She's taken it with both the Keppra (now) and Depakote (before). Many of the AED's are also used as mood stabilizers so it's pretty common for them to be used in conjunction with anti-depressants when it comes to treating mental illness. Therefore chances for interactions, while important to know, SHOULD be on the minimal side.
