i was recently put on lamotrigine after having no luck with tegretol, but after taking 25mg a day for just six days i started to get side affects. i couldn't walk in a strait line, i was very uncoordinated and without warning, i was sick. my vision was also blurred. i was fine when i woke up but when i got to work it suddenly hit me. is there anyone else taking lamotrigine who got side affects like mine and really quickly?

Sounds like you are being hit hard by the side effects. You had better call your doctor Sonia.

What side effects can this medication cause?

Lamotrigine may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

loss of balance or coordination

double vision

blurred vision

uncontrollable movements of the eyes

difficulty thinking or concentrating

difficulty speaking

drowsiness

dizziness

diarrhea

constipation

loss of appetite

weight loss

stomach, back, or joint pain

missed or painful menstrual periods

swelling, itching, or irritation of the vagina

uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms or those described in the IMPORTANT WARNING section, call your doctor immediately:

seizures that happen more often, last longer, or are different than the seizures you had in the past

chest pain

swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs

headache

stiff neck

sensitivity to light

loss of consciousness

Lamotrigine may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while you are taking this medication.

If you experience a serious side effect, you or your doctor may send a report to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online [at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch] or by phone [1-800-332-1088].

What storage conditions are needed for this medicine?

Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

i did call my doctor but he said to continue taking it, still increasing it by 25mg every ten days until i reach 150mg twice daily. if i am still getting bad side affects after that then i have to call them again

Sonia.g

Did you start walking into things. I am on Limactal and have not problem but I meet a woman who had a lot of problems with it another word with your doctor might be a good idea.

I am also on lamotrigine (150 at night and 100 in the morning). Fortunate to say I have not had any side effects except occasional ulcers in the mouth (which I read is a possible side effect). My doc said this is fine. However if it is affecting your daily life you should contact your doc.

My daughter takes lamotrigine (lamictal) and with every increase we have gone thru she has had dizziness. Not full loss of balance but a good deal of dizziness. She also gets nausea with every increase. The neurologist said to be sure to take the med with food and that seems to have helped the nausea. Her dizziness does go away after a week of the higher dose but they did mention that if it did not, they wanted her to take the med at night rather than the morning (She is on extended release so it in only take one time per day). I hope things improve for you soon! Keep us posted!

I have had the same experience with the dizziness after each increase or decrease in Lamictal. It goes away once I'm stable. But what you're experiencing sounds worse Sonia. If the side effects don't go away, or get worse, let your doc know right away.
