Reason I am asking is because I think I probably will not be doing well with so many meds because of my kidney problem and history of not doing well in past.

I took Neurontin because of leg pain..so I am kinda used to it..but took it as a PRN. Which puzzled the doc..doesnt he know other docs prescribe this for pain?

Anyone on Neurontin for SP/CP ??

Thanks

Jan

Officially Neurontin is approved for adjunctive seizure use, so your doc may or may not be familiar with its unofficial "off-label" uses. It has been prescribed for a number off-label uses including neuralgia, migraines, chronic pain, restless leg syndrome, and MS spasticity, with mostly positive results. It has also been pushed for bipolar, but has been shown to be no better than a placebo in that context.

BTW, Neurontin should be used carefully in patients with kidney impairment due to possible accumulation and toxicity, so it's may not be right the AED for you.

Rebecca was taking Gabapentin (Neurontin family) and the downside was suicidal tendencies. We stopped it as soon as I made the connection to it. The neurologist never told me this was a possibility.

Here is my question, My Neruologist is weaning me off Keppra and replacing it with Neurontin. I will remain on Topamaa twice a day. This is making me very anxious. The reason is because of the serious hair loss I am experiencing and some other side effects. I have not had a seizure in almost 3 years, but I am still very nervous. Has anyone had this replacement of Neurontin instead of Keppra?

Robin thank you for the interesting info on Neurontin. Gabapentin is the Generic. I really am still not getting any feedback on m original question about the concept of replacing Keppra with Neurontin. Perhaps I am on the wrong site for noone seems to anser my question in any of the forums.

Hi Neelee --

Unfortunately, it's really hard to predict how a give med will affect any individual. Even things like hair loss or weight gain -- oneperson can have the completely opposite result from another. We've all been on different meds or different combos, but it's possible no-one here at CWE has done the switch from Keppra to Neurontin. (And not all our members read all the posts everyday :) ) I recommend that you keep track of how things change during and after the taper, and if you have any worrisome or intolerable side effects, check in with your doctor ASAP.
