G'day fellow Aussies

I was just looking for some recommendations for a neurologist/epileptologist that you are happy with. Preferably someone in Sydney or Canberra (or within that 400km odd radius).

Having recently had a less than encouraging appointment with a neurologist, any suggestions would be welcome. I'm looking for someone who looks at the whole picture, not just "Oh yes, you have simple partial seizures and for those you take this!" without any further discussion.

I'm sure it is very much horses for courses, and someone else would have found this person brilliant but they just weren't for me. I have a science background and by default tend to want to discuss things, ask questions and evaluate the answers before blindly accepting something.

I'm new to this, so please bear with me!

Cheers, Pippa

Hi Pippa,

While I haven't met the bloke personally, Ernest Somerville seems like a great neuro with an interest in epilepsy. He did a presentation at the Epilepsy Top of Mind seminar in Bris not too long ago and he sounded like a really thorough kind of doctor. He is based at the prince of Wales I believe.

Thanks Mono - I'll look into it.

Another bloke I found through looking on the internet is A/Prof Geoffrey Herkes, at Royal North Shore in Sydney, who specialises in epilepsy as well.

We should get an unofficial database going of the good neurologists that we come across, as a good medical person is worth their weight in gold.

Cheers, Pippa
