B-Complex or just B6 and B12.

I'm taking Keppra 3,000mg a day and of course I'm also taking B-Vitamins. I'm taking "Nature Made Stress B-Complex", and the acne that it is causing is driving me nuts.

Every time I go a week with taking a different vitamin, my acne clears up, but I have a seizure, but while taking "Nature Made Stress B Complex", I'm seizure free.

I've tried three different B-Complex vitamins and they all have the same result, clear acne but returning seizures.

So now I'm considering just trying to take B6 and B12, or do I need all the vitamins in a B-Complex???

Because if I continue with B-Complex, I'm going have to buy every Neutrogena product on the the market and probably do a glycolic acid peel every two weeks.//:soap:

I've only been dealing with Epilepsy since March of this year, so I'm new to all of this, but I am blessed to have control of my seizures with one Medication & Vitamin......

....but the ACNE...!!!!!!!!

When I get B6 and B12 into my system (2000 mg of Keppra) I feel much better. Just now I realized that I had no extra B6 or B12 today and I've been real cranky/depressed. May be relative, may not be.

On another note, get some GoJo or Orange Goop soap which is usually used for cleaning up machine grease, and use it on your zits. It works for me. ;)

Wow, some brands of B-complex vitamins cause me to have seizures. I appears the ones with added soy-lecithin cause mine. I know that is a very beneficial nutrient but it is a neurotransmitter that triggers my seizures. And the B-complex has something to do with it i know. I have found B-5 (pantothenic acid) has a neuro calming effect and should be good. This is a great thread, i can not wait to stay posted, thank you.

I've only been taking a generic B6/magnesium complex (Pyridoxine) for a few months, but it really seems to have helped with my mood- even through leaving my job I've felt pretty good- and no increase in seizures or keprage lol

The main thing I get out of it is from the magnesium I think. I take it late evening and it really helps me get to sleep. Chronic insomnia was killing me before, but I've been having a regular *normal* sleep cycle since I started taking it, and it's really turned my life round :)

Thankfully I haven't noticed any acne- but I'd probably accept it to be able to feel half-human again...

Everyone reacts a little differently to the vitamins and meds. Maybe there is some sort of filler or other nutrient that is exacerbating your seizures. So go ahead and try the B6 and B12 only. And the keppra could be causing your acne -- it's a side effect of many of the anti-seizure meds. See: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f20/keppra-acne-7387/

Yes, congrats on feeling better! I too feel much better with Magnesium in the evening. I wake up refreshed and that good rest really helps my seizures not be around. I have been researching this too and found that we want to take Magnesium citrate not the oxide form which is more common and cheaper. I talk to my compounding pharmacist about these things often.

I take magnesium taurate -- a bit harder to find (I order it online), but taurine is also good for the brain so it's win-win.

Ahh that's it, I couldn't remember which was best... hmm it's mag stearate in mine- think it's time for a script change!

I did see a number of reports about mag deficiencies nation wide today and it acts to fight depression but people take drugs instead. I read that Mag-oxide is not the best, but mag citrate, mag carbonate are the best absorbed.

Hmm well I know about self-medication... it's crazy to think that years of problems may have been exacerbated by a simple mag deficiency *shakes head*

Oh well, on the good stuff now :D

I found some good info here;

I swear by the mood stability and feeling better qualities.

Good to know Janus! I'm glad you've found a supplement that helps.

Same thing happened with me, I don't remember which B vitamin I took though.

I read that it helped with the keprage but didn't think to ask my neuo first if I should have taken it or not. I stopped taking it about 3 weeks after I started and my seizures went back to normal, still having them but not like I was when taking the B vitamin.

The only vitamins I'm on right now are a multivitamin and folic acid.
