Hello! I knew it had been a while since I last visited, and sure enough, when I logged in it says I last visited August 20!
Save for one possible aura, I have been fine since I last saw my epileptologist in May. Thankful for that and knocking on wood it stays that way. I received a letter from him that really surprised me today. He is retiring from active practice. Like I said, I was surprised because he is, I wold guess, only in his nid-late 50s. I don't know if he is retiring completely or if he is switching over to managing the epilepsy program at the hospital and/or teaching at the medical school full-time.
The letter said I can stay with his practice or switch to another doctor. It does not indicate if I will be assigned to one of the other epileptologists or if I will be able to choose when I schedule my next appointment. There are two medical schools in Houston, and both have epilepsy clinics. I definitely want to keep seeing an epilepsy specialist, and I would prefer to stay in my current practice, but I don't know who to choose (if I get to choose). I know there's one I don't want to see.
Is there anyone on this forum who sees or has seen an epileptologist in the Houston area? Can you give me your feedback? I think it goes without saying that y'all know this is a big decision.
Thanks in advance for your feedback. I'm really surprised by the news and my reaction. I haven't felt this mix of sadness and uncertainty since my last boss got a new job almost four years ago!
