qtown, best of luck to you! However, don't let the idea of not having your head opened up stop you from any possibity of being seizure free. I had my skull drilled through and found out the surgery was not going to work. But at least I explored the idea instead of always wondering. My thought are with you.

Have a wonderful birthday and I hope that they will be able to capture a seizure in all it's "glory".
Keep us up to date! Good luck!

I hope your brain behaves when you need it to and misbehaves when you need it to. Good luck! And don't forget to write. :)

ha exactly! I hope so too the unruly bugger. Thanks Nak, and yep I'll be writing. I know I'm going to miss you guys so I'll get on as often as I can even if it's only once a day to say hi.

:ridem:

I must make a bit of a correction here tho (and no fault of Neil's I talk about the surgery so much it's a regular topic between us). It's not surgery yet. Monday is my day of testing with the neuropsychologist and then I'm admitted to the seizure unit. My epileptologist (and epilepsy nurse and regular GP) feel surgery will be necessary as there is a damaged location to remove (MTS Mesial Temporal Sclerosis), but the unit we have to do first to get an exact location. And make sure it isn't too deep as well. She said the waiting list for surgery after this is a few months long, so it wouldn't be until the new year.
Two things however - it's all moot unless I can actually have a seizure on video (maybe I should just get really drunk celebrating my birthday ey that should solve it), and at the end of it all I still have to make the final decision. I don't want my head cut open (esp. when there's a chance it won't work), but I don't want to look back in 10 years and regret that I didn't do it while still young. Sigh. Decisions decisions.

Thanks for clearing it up. As you know, I've been there, done that, so when I first read Neil's post, I thought he was 'jumping the gun" a bit soon. Once they see where the seizures are originating, then they will be able to determine whether they can operate or not. I had to have the WADA testing done to determine whether I was a surgery candidate and then the brain mapping, which in itself was a surgery, mainly testing my language. My damage is in the left temporal lobe, deep in the hippocampus, the language area. They didn't get all the damaged tissue, therefore, my surgery wasn't a success. Hopefully yours will be better if you decide to go thru with it.

Good luck and Happy Birthday!

This is just going to be fine and a fast recovery for you. For what its worth I just feel this. I hope you B-day is fun and that you have the best year ever!

Thanks guys!! Officially 34... ugghhhh... one year closer to 40.
Can't really complain I guess I'm apparently still holding my youth. The odd time I still get ID'd. Here in Canada they're supposed to if you look under 25. So if I look 10 years younger than I am (and feel) well, there is a silver lining in everything!!!

Happy Birthday! Remember, you're only as old (or as young) as you behave....

Thanks Nak, you're a sweetie.
Well we did celebrate it on Saturday and I must say that I didn't behave my age at all!!!!
Actually had one of the best nights we've ever had together in five years - drinks, appies, dancing, singing along with the whole pub to the live musician (he rocked it, played everything from Simon and Garfunkel to Jimmy Buffet to Coldplay). It was the best, just what I needed as stressed as I've been.
