As some of you may have experienced this, I just wanted to ask for some advice.

Is there any way to stop you biting your tongue during a seizure? It's painful as hell and I hate losing weight the week after because of it lol.

I don't think there's any safe way to stop the tongue-biting; generally-speaking you're supposed to keep things out the mouth while seizing to avoid the risk of choking. If you tend to have seizures predictably during a specific period (for example at night), you could ask your neuro and/or dentist about wearing a mouthguard.

Although the sore tongue and gums are painful, they do heal relatively quickly. While you're waiting for them to heal, try eating mild soft/liquid foods so you don't lose weight. I've found that smoothies, chicken soup, hard-boiled eggs, etc. do the trick.

The mouthguard idea did pop into my head, only thing is as I only have seizures in my sleep I want to be 100% sure it's safe. If I could get it then i'd rather only have to sleep it off than have to deal with the tongue.

Onto the food idea, I hadn't tried hard boiled eggs so I got another thing besides chicken soup to try now thanks haha.

If you get a mouth-guard made by your dentist, it will be properly molded to your teeth and it fits very snuggly. It takes a couple of nights to get used to, but after that it should be fine.

I hate that too. nakanmova is right. "they" say not to put things in your mouth because you could swallow or choke but that being said, here is what I do. I got a piece of nylon material (like mens swim trunks are maid of) and roll a tight cylander till the diameter is about the size of a hot dog, the lenth is about 4 inches. and here is my thinking... In water survival training they teach that cotton when wet will swell and trap air! the nylon will shed water and allow air to pass (during my seizures I am a spit monster)for me the size is comfortable, but big enough I can't swallow or choke. Now I will admit, that the events that brought me here has given me some anger issues and made me more of a risk taker. The last time I was in the ER, I had an aura, told the nurse and she asked for a "bite block" the aura was a false alarm so I never got to see it.
I hope These thought help you!

You may get a sore tongue even with a mouth guard, perhaps not as bad, but it may also be worse. Talk to a dentist about this, usually they will know what's best. I have primary generalized epilepsy or tonic seizures without the shaking, at least from what I was told.

Usually I just eat only soft food such as ramen noodles, let cereal set in milk for a good 25 to 30 minutes then it's soft! I also take ibuprofen which helps a little bit before I eat, it helps me a little. Have you tried that?

Indeed this is awful...as is biting your mouth or lip...but I usually do this when I'm eating too fast...I'll have this spaz and then ****!!! :(

I'd say the mouth guard is the way to go. In a way it bruises my tongue from pressure instead of cutting it with my teeth. Still sucks but not as bad! I tend to bite my cheek too and this helps with that as well.

Fruit smoothies really help me out for a few day after!
