breathless?

Hi guys,

All has been well for awhile, but over the past few weeks I have noticed my breathing becoming more noticeable, and over the last couple of days, extremely laboured--today being the worst having me lounge in bed to relax and later this evening leave work early.

when sitting around, I feel like i hold my breath and then go for a breath, but i'm breathing all along ( i think). And when i sleep I was told that I am breathing really heavy and laboured.
-I'm considered allergic to my med by the dr's because of the breathing, but not so much as to come off of it, they say it's up to my comfort level. And until nowwww it has been fine.

As well-I'm experiencing xtreme finger, arm and leg tingles as though I just started the meds!!!! its very oddd...

What I'm curious about is if anyone out there has experienced being on medication for some time and then suddenly experiencing dramatic side effects. (thats where I'm at with the breathing). I can't figure out why I'd feel amazing a month ago, and then normal, and now feel like I have a lung disorder. I had asthma as a child...and wonder if that is suddenly coming back because of meds?

anyone have anything ? I can't find much on the net....

I did a search on "anti seizure medication" and "breathing" and it popped up a bunch of stuff. Googling is an art! Many of the AED's have breathing changes or difficulty as a side effect. Like neurontin and Topamax.

I'm finding that when they list a side effect, my side effect may be related but slightly different than the package inserts describe it.

Definitely call and let your doctor know about the breathing changes. Changes to your air supply could be a heads up.

Rebecca had breathing issues when on Gabapentin (neurontin) and has not and anything similiar since being taken off of the drug. I was told it was a type of a seizure. In this case (as with many side effects she had) it was the drug causing the seizure.

Ask yourself these questions and note down your answers before you meet your GP:
1) Is the breathing worse in the day or at night
2) is it worse when walking ? do you have to stop for breath while walking?
3) do you feel breathless while carrying out everyday tasks (dressing yourself , going to the loo etc.)
4) Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night gasping for air? do you use extra pillows because you are uncomfortable with lying flat?
5) are you hypertensive/diabetic/asthmatic/have any heart disease?
6) has anyone noticed you suddenly stop breathing while you sleep?

As for drug side effects , AEDs have been known to cause breathing irregularities. I noticed mine this weekend when a buddy of mine and i went on a road trip. He was like " Dude , the first 6-7 breaths you take are normal and then you start breathing like a rhinoceros on crack". I'm assuming this is due to my meds although i'm getting myself checked up.
YOU SHOULD GET YOURSELF SEEN BY THE NEURO AND YOUR GP. Rule out organic causes first before laying it down to the drugs.
