I was diagnosed with sleep apenea during my stay in hospital after aneurysm 2 years ago. I followed up with dr and was advised to use cpap but if I chose not to I didnt have to. 2 years later... now i stop breathing (I guess) in my sleep, tired all the time, restless during the night, bad nitemares etc. I went bavk to dr and she sent me bavk to pulmonologist, and now, i not only have to have the cpap machine but he added oxegen too! Anyone else on oxygen/cpap? I also did stress test, because of constant palpatations, medicine got increased and i ended up doing a haltermonitor for 24 hours, this was all before seeing cpap dr. I hate it when dr's discuss me, without me being present. im not sure if something is going on with ticker or not, but i get the feeling that it is. i will see cardio dr in avout 2 weeks for results, i know what some people say, if they dont call you within 24 to 48 hours after taking test, everything is probably ok......i dont buy that, again (see bio) i was given a clean bill of health and shortly after I had an aneurysm. Am I in the wrong room again?

There seems to be a connection between sleep apnea and seizures, so it's probably worth using the CPAP. Check out the threads here: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/tags/sleep apnea.html

If you're not sure about what the docs are testing you for, don't be shy about calling them for more info. They may just want to rule something out to be on the safe side. And some of them just like running tests for insurance reasons.

Hope your heart is 100% healthy and that the CPAP helps.

i writing a note and putting in with my insurance card, this way, i dont forget to ask the questions i want to ask. I think they're milking insurance also. I fit so many critierers and am at the age to have a lot of new tests done. she wants to do colon, i havent agreed to that one yet. thats going to take some pondering.

I have sleep apnea. I had a sleep study done april of last year. It found that I stopped breathing 33 times an hour. I sleep with a cpap every night. I hate it but I do sleep better with it and I wake up more refreshed. So as much as I hate the mask I am fathful to it every night and sleep better for it.

Im not going to go against the grain (was told I was out of compliance), I will use it, as a matter of fact, I will recieve it next week. Im hoping it will get rid of the 'Metal Banging Headaches" I get while sleeping.

They agreed to bring the equipment to my job, how about that. The last time I refused because I didn't want them in my home. It's just that I didnt want to be home alone with someone I didnt know. People are crazy, and so am I, so they tell me.

I have to do some kind of blood oxygen test for a day as well. Im sure it will be helpful, Im just frustrated that they don't have a "Fix Me Now" pill. You know, one pill to fix all.

thanks for sharing.

Pita,
How long does it take before the shap of the mask leaves your face? when I did the study, I was called back to sleep to do a study using the cpap. That next morning I had the imprint of the mask on my face.

If you find that pill please let me know! They will just explain to you how it works, how to put the mask on and how to clean it and change the filter.

I'm lucky I only use the nasal mask. But the strap marks do stay on my face for a few hours nutill the blood gets back up there. My problem is I sleep on my stomach instead of my back or side. Some mornings are worse than others but its usually gone after I've showered and gotten ready for work.

I couldn't breath well (day and night) Inwasmout on Capp machine, then it got to where it wasn't working anymore. I chose to go to a plastic surgery and had surgery on my nose. One of the best things I did for myself.

I didn't have to have oxygen also.

been a week since ive been sleeping with oxygen. the first few days was great, i felt rested and refreshed in the morning, i didnt start crashing until 4pm or so, the days to follow, well lets just say, im back where i started. im still getting the horrible metal banging headaches in my sleep, as a matter or fact it feels like im sufficating, i didnt sleep with it the other nite just see if that made a difference, and it did a little, so perhaps mask not right size or i need to increase air pressure or something, thought i update, thats all.

hi maryltyme,
i have used a cpap (without oxygen, but with humidifier) for a number of years. though i really hate the thing, i've tried periods of time without it and i've tried alternative methods to deal with my apnea (oral devices). i keep coming back to the cpap. at first, it needed some tweaking, and i found that switching masks really helped me. don't be afraid to call your doc (or sleep center) and let them know you're having issues. i actually had a wreck because of my sleep problems. you really don't wnat to end up there. i'm using a nasal mask right now that has some kind of material covering the straps - no marks on my face in the morning! there are all sorts of options, so be kind of pushy when dealing with your doc. you deserve it!

I will do that. I did call the company that provided the equipement and told them of the sufficating issue, was told mask may be too tight or too small. I loosened it and it made a little difference, I will see pulmanologist in 3 wks, and if I am not able to sleep, the sleep lab told me too call back will bring out different sizes/styles to try and fix the problem.

Its amazing how sleep can contour your day. the fact that i am making it to atleast 4pm at work says tons for me. im almost normal again.

yeah. sleep makes all the difference in the world. and you don't really realize that until you begin to have major issues with it like apnea.

i'm glad you're pursuing this. it will make so much difference for you. :-)
