Can I wear contact lenses?

Hi guys this may sound like a stupid question but can you wear contact lenses when you have epilepsy? I currently wear glasses for distance but when I have had a seizure in the past I have usually hit my glasses on the floor and some have broke, others have dug in to my face and left red marks. I have been seizure free for almost two years next month (longest break in the past 11 years) thanks to tegretol. My Mam says I shouldn’t get them as my eyes roll when having a seizure and she thinks they’ll get lost in the back of my eye. Thank you for responses in advance.

My daughter has epilepsy and she always wears contact lenses.

I have no problem wearing them, I asked my neuro and optometrist before I did and they both said it would be ok. I even wear them when I sleep. If you do start wearing them and begin to have problems then you might want to stop though.

I stopped wearing lenses for a different reason -- the seizure meds give me dry eyes.

For me, I have found contacts to be much better than glasses. I've broken 3 pairs of glasses during complex partial seizures. Usually they're so badly damaged that they cannot be put back together!
I just make sure that I have a spare pair in my purse at all times. (I keep it in one of those little bags that extra buttons come in). It also helps in case I'm taken to the ER.
