And how would you know if you are/or had a any other kind of seizure DURING sleep?

I understand when you bite your mouth up with TCs but what about CPs?? My husband would get CPs..get up.. do something or say something weird..but I could SEE his eyes and expression were not right.

I am alone now. My husband is deceased. How could I tell if I was having any seizure activity during the night without video EEGs I mean??

Reason I ask is that I often wake up with my muscles deflated..weak..and cannot move when I wake up. I paralyze when I sleep due to a kidney malfuntion where I "waste" electrolytes at any time..mostly potassium or sodium drops when I TAKE MEDICATIONS!!

So this kidney problem makes stabalizing difficult due to the meds I MUST take..see?

Now could some of that muscle problem..AND.. lethargy.. confusion.. put me in a post ictal state??? Because DURING A seizure your electrolytes ARE being affected.

Ok I realize this sounds more scientific now but geez..I think something IS happening when I sleep or nap. Just a gut feeling I am getting.

Any input would be appreciated~!

You can have complex partials during sleep, so that could be a factor. Have you asked your doctor whether this might be a side effect of the kidney meds as well?

Confused..it might be a side effect of what??

I was never on any AEDs at the time.
First med tried a month ago was Trileptal and found out I am allergic.

So no I was not on ANY E meds at the time I was noticing this muscle/state of mind change when I woke up.

I am on Neurontin now ONLY because I used it in the past for pain and had no side effects except somulance. He is closely monitoring how I do on ANY med as I have 2 disorders that mess up meds which in turn the Meds mess up these conditions. Its going to be really difficult to treat me with meds as a result.

I was wondering if the muscle weakness was a side effect of any kidney meds you are taking.

Hi, Jan.

Have you told your Epi about all this? He/she will have an opinion on it all, and maybe adjust or eliminate the gabapentin or make other changes. Kidney function can play havoc with your body chemistries.

In my case: I've had epilepsy for most of my life. But most likely it was low dose gabapentin for nerve pain these last few years that made my seizures much worse, and is what finally drove things to get so bad there was a diagnosis. It doesn't happen to everybody, but it happened to me.

Yes, you can get complex partials at night. I've had two that I know of and I know there were probably lots more that I just didn't know about. One of them I came to outside with my dog, in the rain, with no shoes or coat in the pouring rain. The other time I woke up in the morning to find some damage in my bedroom that I sure didn't remember doing.

I live alone too, and have a basic rule for myself. I have suspected complex partials, but there's usually an alternative explanation for them - they weren't a seizure at all. Like finding my keys in the refrigerator. I have perfectly healthy friends that do that kind of thing all the time. So I look for either someone who witnessed it, or objective physical evidence like a giant bruise or cut I couldn't possibly have gotten without knowing it, something broken or damaged and I don't remember it, or coming to in a completely different place. Sometimes I wake up to an aura, or an after-feeling I often have after seizures, but those are due to simple partials.

Please take good care of yourself.
