I am considering switching to Lamictal from Carbotral for financial reasons, birth defect, and osteporosis risk. I have been ok on carbotral for the past few years, and was once on lamictal but developed depressed so i switched (the dr. has no informed me that the depression and lamictal is more than likely not related.) So i am thinking it might be an ok idea. PLEASE give me your input- Im not sure what to do!!!

Have you looked up the prescribing information for Lamictal? I was told that my granddaughter's behavior problems were not related to Lamictal and I found out that it was a side effect that that only affects a small amount of people. Once we reduced her dosage the behavior problems went away. If I remember correctly one side effect is mood changes. Please look it up for yourself and work with your doctor if you are thinking of changing.

I was on Carbatrol for over 12 years, and in march after having my first VEEG, was taken off and put on Keppra XR. I was on Keppra XR 3000mgs and Carbatrol ER 1200mgs a day prior to the VEEG. But after seeing no major seizures, like grand mal seizures, my dr only put me back on Keppra XR, and not the Carbatrol. I had no problems with the Carbatrol. He was concerned with being on it for a long time, since it can affect your bone marrow the longer youre on it. But after returning home from the VEEG, we did try Lamictal with the keppra XR and I had bad mood swings, and soon after, had an allergic reaction. Swelling glands in my neck area, really bad sores that developed on my chin and jaw line. I was on it for 2 weeks and had to be taken off. Now I hear alot of people who are allergic to sulfa medications, will more than likely be allergic to Lamictal. I am allergic to sulfa medications. When I heard from my dr that the two were not related, I gave it try. But from what my primary care dr told me, they are connected in ways. My primary care dr said they (my neuro dr) should have looked into it more with me having an allergic reaction to sulfa. I had a aweful time with lamical. Ive been on Keppra XR 3000mgs since May, and so far so good! :)
