My 13 year old son has been on clobazam as a monotherapy for 2 years. He was well controlled with his complex partial seizures for 1 1/2 years. However he has started having breakthrough seizures and the doctor has mentioned the issue of tolerance to the benzodiazapene. So, we are starting him on lamotrigine and then hopefully, at the 8 week mark weaning him off clobazam. I know it can be difficult to wean and I don't want any side effects. Any suggestions.

The doctors say 2 1/2 mgs every 2 weeks. At the 35 mg he is presently on that will take about 26 weeks. I don't mind going even slower if it means no rebound seizures or side effects. Even at 1 1/2 mg every 2 weeks it can take 46 weeks but I think that may be safer and like I say , no rebound seizures.

Any advice?
