So I called my neurologist office yesterday and to my surprise she put him on the phone. I had problems in High school thanks to Dilantin and I was lucky to graduate no thanks to my family.

My neuro said I remembered things that I looked up on the computer that he didn't. He said there was nothing wrong with my cognitive abiilty.
I see him the 10th of this month.
I felt like that word was just saying because of the meds I take I'm dumb.

Since I've gotten older I've gotten smarter.

I'd like some input please.

I'm not sure i understand what you are asking Belinda? Do you mean the word cognitive was bothering you?

If that is what you meant, he didn't mean anything by the word i'm sure-he was saying that he felt your ability to think/reason/remember was fine.

That being said, you also mentioned that he used the reference about you remembering things that he didn't which is really a poor indicator on his part of how you are functioning-people can have difficulty with long term memory, or short term memory (or both), or word finding etc so there's a huge range of things that could indicate difficulty and the fact that you can remember things you looked up on the computer doesn't necessarily mean you aren't having issues (which i gather you are saying you are)

cog·ni·tive adjective \ˈkäg-nə-tiv\
: of, relating to, or involving conscious mental activities (such as thinking, understanding, learning, and remembering)

Full Definition of COGNITIVE

1
: of, relating to, being, or involving conscious intellectual activity (as thinking, reasoning, or remembering) <cognitive impairment>
2
: based on or capable of being reduced to empirical factual knowledge
— cog·ni·tive·ly adverb

What I mean is I feel that some people are saying I'm less intelligent because of my AEDs.
I have a good long term memory not so always with my short term memory.
If I read things I can figure things out. I'm a good speller my husband use me as a spell check.

I've got bad short term memory and two learning disabilities. I feel plenty smart. :)

Long term for the most part is a-ok here for me. Short term... I don't remember just how that may be - - Kinda kidding. Short term is a real rough one where sometimes it is there, sometimes not. Usually it rolls around in my head somewhere and if I really want something I have to search for a minute to maybe half hour.

What I mean is I feel that some people are saying I'm less intelligent because of my anti-epileptic drugs.
I don't think it's a matter of intelligence, just some interference that meds may be causing with optimum functioning of your fine brain. My current med (Lamotrigine) doesn't seem to mess with my brain, but the previous one (Zonegran) definitely caused word-finding problems.
