Hello!
I will try to be brief because I am on my phone...and hate typing on my phone. :-)
My daughter's neurologist is taking my daughter who is on 400mg of Lamictal off of it in 3 days! We discovered all of a sudden it is affecting her liver enzymes. He wants her off it fast (slowly going to go on a new med). She seems angry and a little off today.....is this normal?!?! I hate this. :-(

Any abrupt med change can throw things for a loop but if the doctor was concerned enough to make this decision then the liver enzymes must have been a serious concern.
Just go with it and try to stay calm in front of your daughter. Do your venting here. That's what we're here for :)

Best wishes for this transition.

valliegirl, I'm just going on Lamictal, and that is giving me headaches. Just saw my neurologist today, and he thought it was normal for headaches to happen while changing medications, just like AlohaBird said.

Though, some days I wonder if the switch from having seizures to having headaches is really worth it! I HATE headaches. They just make me plain grumpy! :( I'm just holding on to the hope that they will abate with time.

valliegirl - do you have a prescription for a rescue medication should your daughter have a bad tonic clonic seizure during this time she is rapidly tapering off Lamictal? If not, could be worth asking her doctor about.

Agree with masterjen --

The rapid taper can stress the system and potentially trigger seizures, so it might be helpful to have a small rx of something like lorazepam or ativan in case of emergency, (assuming her doc is on board).

And yes, mood changes are not unexpected when you make a change in meds that affect the brain. i hope the transition process is a stress-free as possible. Hang in there!

(and by the way -- welcome to CWE!)
