I have had 1 grand mal. That time i just fainted and had a seizure for a few minutes. I wasnt diagnosed with epilepsy.

But this time it was different. I felt unwell, but not like i will faint, like i would die. Then i couldnt walk or see properly and i wasnt communicating 100%. My muscles were all contracted and very hard, and my jaw was sealed shut and i couldnt open my mouth. Then i started seizing very strongly. I lost consciousness and i woke up many times, still seizing. I wanted to yell for help but i coulnt open my mouth. This went on for more than an hour. I started having difficulty breathing. I felt like i was choking and my heart was racing. I saw my skin and it was completely pale,my father was calling my name and we were trying to get a dr to come see me,but nothing. I could hear ppl around me but the voices became distant , my vision became tunnel-like and my breathing and heart stopped. After that, people were talking to me but i couldnt reply or move and i kept fainting and waking up. This lasted for around 6 hours. I got to the hospital and they just took a blood sample and sent me home. I had small shivers sometimes, but they went away after those 6 hours since it all began. Next day from that i was dizzy and not very coherent all day,had a headache, muscle pains and reduced appetite and sometimes i was unresponsive. This is day 3 and i feel better. The drs didnt give me any meds or prescribe anything.

Should i be worried?

I had a seizure a few years ago similar to this. I don't remember all the details because my memory isn't that great.

I know I was laying face down on the ground during the seizure. I don't know if I fell or sat down, I usually sit down myself during seizures. I know everything that was happening but I couldn't move any part of my body. I heard and knew everything that my family was asking and saying but I couldn't answer them. They wanted to call 911, and did after 15 min, but I kept wanting to tell them not to because I was ok.

By the time the ambulance go there I was completely out of the seizure and answered all the questions that the EMT asked like my phone number, address, SS number and everything else..

That was the first time I've had a seizure like that and I don't think I've had another since.

Yuki, I'm so sorry, I know that's terrifying.

You were probably in Status Epilepticus, which is very dangerous. Seizures usually only last a few minutes. At bare minimum you should have been given an EEG, MRI, and asked to stay for observation in the hospital overnight. You should have seen a neurologist at the hospital. You probably should have been given meds. After having two you are more likely to have more. You wouldn't necessarily have to be on meds forever, but just to make sure you don't have more in the next year or so.

The way you felt the next day is normal for a bad seizure.

Please do whatever is necessary to get an appointment with a neurologist soon, preferably an epileptologist.

Hi yuki,

Yes, it sounds like you have a had second generalized seizure. One seizure out of the blue can be a fluke, but a second one is a sign that you may have a lower seizure threshold -- which means it's important to follow-up with a neurologist. Often with seizures, the more you have, the more likely you are to have seizures in the future, the brain gets "in the habit" of seizing. So there's good reason to diagnose and treat them sooner rather than later.

By the way, there are many kinds of seizures. Not all of them involve impaired consciousness or muscle contractions. If you've been experiencing any other unusual symptoms or sensations, you might want to check out the links below:

I agree with Matthew. It sounds to me like you were experiencing Status Epilepticus.... one seizure after another. They should have kept you at the hospital for observation plus run an EEG as this could happen again and could be dangerous. Been there........
that's probably why I have refractory E, difficult to control epilepsy, with all types of seizures. See a neurologist ASAP!!
