Has anyone out there experienced trouble with your eyesite while taking Dilantin? After a try at a long list of other E meds I am back to Dilantin for about 6 mos. I am now at 325 1x daily and in the last week noticed fuzziness in the evening and darkening glow in the morning. My short term memory is zilch! This is making school a nightmare! But my test grades are great (98 gpa) because I can study for those. Can anyone help?

Blurred or double vision can be a sign that your Dilantin dose is too high. You might want to check with an eye doctor to rule out other causes, and/or check in with your neurologist.

Short-term memory problems can be a medication side effect but also the result of long-term damage from seizure activity. If its onset coincides with switching to Dilantin, however, then the med is the likely culprit.

Rebecca had this with tegretol. It was a devastating side effect. First year of HS she had to have an aide follow her everywhere. The side effect went away when we changed meds. We were "lucky" enough to get a new side effect (suicidal thoughts).

Life began to improve when all meds were eliminated and nutritional changes were put into effect.

I have fuzzy vision and take 100mg x3 a day of Dilantin, but then I also take like 14 other medications and many of them interfere with my vision. One problem caused only by Dilantin is balance. I haven't fallen just yet. And my language skills are sorely lacking...blah!
