Hello everyone, I'm an 18 years old college student and I was wondering if you all could help me out.
I don't actually have epilepsy, but recently some things have been happening that make me believe I may be in store for a seizure.

Recently I have been having some symptoms as well as being very stressed out for other reasons. The main symptom that concerns me is an overwhelmingly strong sensations of deja vu that seem to happen most often during stressful events. Along with the deja vu I have the occasional hallucination, well what I think are hallucinations. These include little specs that appear in the corner of my eye, and strange smells that don't seem to have sources.

One of the first cases of a very drawn out deja vu occured while I was under the influence of psilocybin mushrooms, but I have had others while sober. I've quit using drugs of any sort for the time being.

It may also be important to note that my older sister had a seizure when she was in highschool, but she isn't epileptice.

I really would like to know if I should be concerned with this and seek medical attention.

What you're describing are symptoms of E, however, the magic mushrooms can cause these same symptoms as well since they do cause hallucinations.

If you're concerned your best bet would be to contact a neurologist and set up an EEG and absolutely stay away from the drugs ; )

Hi Prometheus!

Gotta agree with KelVarQ. 1) Go see a neuro...and 2) Quit all non presecrip. drugs.

1) Technically, a person isn't usually diagnosed with epilepsy unless they have had 2 seizures.

Drug use can change the brain's chemistry. Just because you have quit using, doesn't mean that the damage hasn't already been done. so for pete's sake, stay away from any drug that is not specifically prescribed to you, and go see your doctor.

There could also be a nutritional aspect to what you are experiencing. People in the same family tend to eat similar foods, and there can be a sensitivity, food allergy, blood sugar imbalance, etc that could be causing neurological distress.

Clear out all toxins, and search for nutritional advice too

The sensations you describe sound like epilepsy or migraine auras. In some kinds of epilepsy there are no convulsions or loss of consciousness involved, so that could be what's going on. The best way to know for sure is to contact a neurologist for an evaluation, especially if the sensations seem to be increasing in frequency or duration.

Best,
Nakamova

I have

to agree with the others. And DO start tracking what you eat, and what you DO. You'll be surprised at what might have actually caused the episode(s) in the first place...

Thanks for the advice
I think I may check with a doctor if my symptoms persist.
Staying away from mushrooms may be in my best interest aswell.
Thanks again!

Using shrooms just once can cause drug induced psychosis for the rest of your life. We just comitted a 19yr to the state hospital for 6 months due to these. Have you had any tests to rule out seizures?
I like your idea of stopping the drug use until you find out what is going on.
Probably not the response you were looking for but have worked in the mental health feild for a long time.
