Do I really need this much rest or am I being lazy? (the edited and shorter version!)

My childhood diagnosis, history, adult symptoms and recent tests have unofficially confirmed the return of left temporal lobe epilepsy. The official diagnosis will hopefully come after a 2wk video EEG. I'm finally on the right medication (Lamictal) and I feel better than I have in years, but i'm still the person who's always leaving early, not coming, or needs more rest. My question is that should I really be this tired just because of epilepsy? I do have really good days, but at the moment i'm on uni holidays, and I'm only working part time so I don't really have a reason to be tired. I spend about 3-4 days a week at home all day. I walk my dog each day, then potter around the house, cleaning, reading, watching TV etc. I've applied for a really awesome part time job which would give me time to finish my degree. Both are in the same area, which takes over 4.5hrs return travel via public transport. Moving closer isn't an option yet, but I could potentially get my license back in 6mnths time. Am I crazy to think I can manage all of this? I usually replace "can't" with "somehow", but I'm not sure how much I can manage these days. Too much mental stimulation and running around are my triggers, and I have some big units to do this year. Thank u for listening, appreciate your thoughts x

sometimes doing nothing (for want of a better word) can make you more tired than an active day because your bored so too speak you go lethargic because you haven't done nothing all day especially when your used too working and going too uni, keep your mind and body very active and try it, just the same as when you have an ultra extended sleep you wake up more tired because you've been in bed too long.

Thanks Maisy, you're right. I do try and get out of the house when I can. I have just reconnected with a high school friend who's moved into the area so I can get to her place on my electric scooter instead of having to travel at least an hour to see a friend :) I think I answered my own question though. Just had a partial.

Hi Wobblez, just curious about the electric scooter? Is it one you need a licence for? I am thinking of options other than walking as well as I can't drive for 6 months.

I think you should give the study and work a go and see how you cope with it. I have cut back to 4 days a week work and less hours as I too am just so tired, especially in the afternoon. I've been on holidays for four weeks and have still slept in the afternoons. I think the medications are the main cause of it.

I dunno, I definitely feel more tired with being on more meds (though I'm getting less sleep because I'm not sleepy, just low energy). I think the meds can really mess with you. Lamictal, however, is supposed to be one of the meds with minimal side effects (according to my neuro), so it may be something else. As previous poster mentioned, lack of activity feeds tiredness. There are other factors that could play a role theoretically, such as depression or anxiety. I hope you get it all worked out soon!

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. Things usually work themselves out so I'll see how we go. I think having some reial financial stress has had more of an effect on me than I realised. I'm waking up wondering how I'm going to pay my rent!

JuzzyK, check out allroundscooters.com.au. This is where I got mine from. You don't need a license, they cost you next to nothing to run and don't require registration. Although mine only goes 35kmph, its still proven to be a lifesaver. Best $1600 I've ever spent!

I just started working out my Wii Fit(I was always so tired with no motivation, I thought it was because of my meds) . Let me tell you somethin'... i have so much more energy and feel a ton better!!!!!!
Give it a go! Get your heart pumpin!

Hey Sixyearsold those things sound like fun! You're right, now I think about it I've been doing a lot of walking, but nothing strenous enough to get my heart pumping. Need to get back into the Pilates and Konga I was doing before Christmas. Thanks for the kick up the bum =)

I started having more enegry as soon as I started working on the wii. It also just gave me to push ot energy to really get back into some of the things I loved(like crafting, reading, etc.).
Give a shot! Can't hurt to try!!

Like Wobblez, I'm low energy (maybe it's the lamictal?). But I've let the Wii get dusty, so I'll shake off the cobwebs (mine) and give it another shot...
