Do people with Full tonics Seizures get injured badly?

i dont' have Full fall to the ground type of seizures. But for the people that do, are there many injuries including broken teeth and broken limbs and stuff? I would imagine that would happen.

Do you wear protection so that if it happens you won't get hurt badly?
 
When I had my first TC seizure, it happened while I was stepping out of the shower. I didn't know what was happening at the time and when I fell, I went backwards and fell onto the hot water, lying there long enough to suffer 1st and 2nd degree burns on my back, right arm, and buttocks. I was in the hospital for 2 months and had numerous surgeries. I've since had several other falls with less serious injuries while having a TC. Suffered another burn on my hand, had some bad falls and ended up with a bad black eye, some bad bruises, etc. The only protection I wear is a helmet when I ride my bike.

Shoulder dislocation during seizing. But wearing any kind of padding or helmet wouldn't have made a difference.
 
I never know when I'm going to have tonic-clonic and I've busted my head open several times.I've broken teeth broken collar bones.It's not the only type of seizure I have.
 
more broken dreams and hearts and hearts than anything, i wouldnt sweat it.
 
It all depends on when and where. There could be no injuries all the way to life threatening. That's why licenses are taken away and such.

Like I said in my posting, I've suffered life-threatening injuries due to seizures.

And, I totaled my car in Dec. 2012, due to a CP seizure while I was driving. I didn't loose my license. I didn't drive for 6 months (like my neuro said and CO law). Just Xmas Eve 2013, I was on my way to my family's dinner and had another CP seizure while driving. But when the EMT arrived and I regained consciousness, I could tell them I also had diabetes. They took my glucose level and realized I had a diabetic seizure, so when I got to the hospital, the policemen were told and I wasn't ticketed and didn't loose my license. So, my point is, the EMTs need to be informed properly. Not only EMTs, but EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE INFORMED ABOUT SEIZURES!!

Wow you are allowed to stilll drive when you have both E seizures and diabetic seizures? that could be very dangerous not only for you but for those around you. Stay safe!
 
I've cracked a cheek bone and bitten my tongue almost clean in half. Couldn't eat solids for a month. That was pretty awful. I usually give myself black eyes. I suppose I tend to fall sideways or forward. Luckily, any burns have been minor and I've not fallen in the shower. That's something I am especially scared of because there are hard things jutting out all over the place and no carpets to soften the blow. In my irresponsible days I had a tonic clonic at night while walking home. A car drove by and picked me up. Luckily at that time I was living in a small town where the crime wasn't so bad, so they just took me home. I had a tonic clonic in the street in the town I'm living in now and woke up with a crowd around me. A guy in a fancy car pulled over and the crowd were quite happy to let me go with him. His motivations were not so pure but, thankfully, he was no criminal so I got taken home the moment I insisted and there was no traumatic experience to speak of. I don't wear a medic alert bracelet but if I did, it would say, "In the event of a seizure, don't put me in a stranger's car." You'd think that much was obvious.

Perhaps i misunderstood, but you said after your Xmas eve 2013 seizure you didn't lose your license. I took that to mean you were still driving. I'm not sure what the point of your question was about my daughter, but she is only 4 so thats a long ways off for us. If she is unfortunate enough to not outgrow her seizures and still have them by the time she can apply for a learners permit, our law requires she be absolutely seizure free for 6 months before she can apply, so no, she would not be driving.

I didn't lose my license because there was no other vehicle involved and because the accident and seizure happened more than a year after the last one. They seem to happen every 6 to 8 months apart for some odd reason, probably the stress from holidays this time. And, NO I am NOT DRIVING now, nor will I be for at least 6 months, probably a lot longer 'cause I totaled my car and now I cannot afford another one! I never said I was still driving! That was my point. And I wanted to know why you said what you did, since you have a daughter with E. Surely you will experience the "whys" and "why nots" of raising a child.
I've had E for more than 30 years and the Type 1 diabetes for 7 years. I've tried nearly every med out there, had brain surgery and now have the VNS. So some never get ride of E, unfortunately. Just wait and see..........:ponder:

I have bitten completly through my lip and cheek. Mainly bumps and bruises . most of my seizure are at night while sleeping and lucky for me not to many tc seizures
 
My daughter's were never violent, she just melted onto the ground. She has bitten her tongue occasionally, but most of the time they were gentle convulsions. She has had over 50+ seizures. Additional types when on medication, but those ceased when medication was stopped.
She has now been seizure free for over 4 yrs.

Certain meds can provoke seizures if the person is truly diagnosed with E. Wasn't your daughter actually hypoglycemic instead of having epilepsy?

some worse than others...

But, I am alive...ive got several scars on my facefrom falls..not pretty anymore. I feel fortunate to at least know my relative triggers, like being overly tired, stressed, early mornings, pre menstrual.
