I was wondering how many of you cook? And by cook I mean use the oven, stove or things like that.

If I'm alone I usually only use the microwave or toaster because I don't know when a seizure is coming on and I don't want to burn the house down.

I will cook if there is someone in the house with me and sometimes my husband will call me when he's about 10 minutes away from home and I'll get dinner started.

I've had a few times, luckily when someone has been with me, that I've had a seizure while cooking. The last time I was making waffles for dinner. I poured the batter in the waffle iron then had a seizure and went and got into bed not knowing I was doing it. My husband didn't realize what was going on until he smelled the waffle start to burn in the waffle iron. He came and got me and asked what I was doing, then saw I was having a seizure. I started arguing with him that it was 4am and it was time to be in bed not 4pm.

The waffle was pretty well done but at least the house was ok.

I have had seizures when making sandwiches, you end up with some pretty interesting ones when you do that!

I rely on the microwave and toaster, though not because of seizures -- I'm just lazy and unskilled. Every now and then I put a real meal together and have guests over, but meal planning is not my strong point.

Curse you Valerie! Now I'm craving waffles... :)

Hummm! Waffles! Lol! I cook and but I'm not alone my husband is usually home.

I cook, usually stove top; sautes of stirfried vegies/rice etc or making oatmeat in the morning. I have 2 housemates, Thank god! and not because of seizures I just got sidetracked and it burned. But I always make enough for a couple days and microwave leftovers from the fridge on a daily basis.

I live on my own so I cook myself meals on the stove, in the oven or in the slow cooker.
I will often cook myself a meal (eg a roast dinner) & get a few meals out of it so I have enough for that night, the following night plus some extra to put in the freezer. This used to be particularly handy when I was working at the chiropractor & some nights I didn't finish until after 7pm so I would get a pre cooked meal out of the freezer & just heat it up in the microwave when I got home from work.

I don't like cooking for other people though so won't have people around for a meal. My parents are always joking about how I won't cook for them.

When my seizures weren't under control I used to avoid using the grill or the oven to much because there was the odd time where I'd forgotten to turn them of after I cooked a meal & not realise until a few minutes later.

I try to cook but not very good at it :) So like Nak I pretty much rely on the microwave. I do live with my 20 Y/O son but I never know if he is coming home working late or what. So its just not worth cooking for myself

like many i live on my own, am lazy and unskilled and eat mostly the prime batchelor food of chilled pizza or cheese on toast with chillie oil :)

but i do try and force myself to cook something special for a sunday meal, and usually end up freezing a few portions of that (if i don't just blow it off and grill a steak)

it doesn't take that much skill to slowcook a curry/chillie/spag. sauce and ends up waaay cheaper (and probably a lot healthier) than all that pizza :)

only ever had 1 seizure-related pizza fire, so that's not too bad considering how many i must have eaten lol

Sorry I've got everyone wanting waffles now. You're all more than welcome to come over and we can have a big waffle party!

My hubby works alternative days and nights and when I'm alone I'm only allowed to cook ready meals because of seizures and other issues. When my hubby is at home he does all the cooking because he doesn't want me to get hurt.

I cook, shower, sauna, whatever, just like any 'normal' person. Unless I've had a recent grand mal, then I'll wait a few days to readjust my head and sore body before going back to the usual.
In 19 years with E I've only had a seizure while making dinner twice. Once I was getting everything ready and hadn't turned the stove on yet, and the last time I had a burner on but turned it off as soon as the partial (simple) started getting stronger, just in case.
I'm very, very lucky to be able to do whatever I choose b/c I always have a partial first. Fingers are so crossed that if this surgery doesn't work then atleast it stays that way and I always have a warning.

I think it's waffles for dinner tonight :) Pita, come make me dinner <3

I just had. And this is typical for me; brown rice i had in the fridge put in a bowl, microwave hot, add lots of thinly sliced cheese (so it melts). Chop fresh beets and lettuce, celery(celery tops included), carrot and mushroom. put veggies in a bowl and dump the rice/cheese mixture on top and stir it together while taking bites out with yr fork.
Crude, i know, but easy and fast.

That sounds great!! We had steamed broccoli, noodles with Alfredo sauce. My daughter and I weren't very hungry tonight. Do you eat vegetarian? We switched our diet last year. We aren't extremely hard core but we try.

I am veg. but I do not think that everyone should be. Its what works best for me (for 29 years now). To each their own. right? Your meal sounds SO much better than mine. Happy eating.
