I ask this becuase since Monday, Ive became really ill to the point where my dr said I have strep throat again. :( I started to feel really not the best on sunday, and by monday morning I woke up with a huge headache, my throat felt like it was closing up, it hurt to swallow, and had red and white patches in the back. So I went to my drs that morning, and they gave me a prescription for Keflex. I wake up tuesday morning with a 103 fever, shaking, feeling really cold, and feeling twice as worse, with the most terriable aching feeling in the world!

I was in bed all day yesterday, and most of today. But Ive noticed my left upper eye lid is twitching so much its bugging the hell out of me. Ive tried to get up, take a shower, try to feel alittle better, but then my body feels so tired again, like I just want to keep sleeping.

So my question to all of you, is.....

when you get ill, do you see changes in your body that are possible symptoms of seizures wanting to come on?

I use to always have partial seizures when I was sick, I think when your bodies run down it lowers the seizure threshold.
I recently changed my diet and stopped eating gluten and dairy, it's actually made a huge difference. The other week I had at one point 13 out of 20 children in my classroom because there was a bug going around, I had children throwing up in class and having nose explosions (Very messy sneezes). Naturally I picked up what the kids had but, I didn't have a seizure and apart from feeling crappy from being sick I didn't feel anything else. But, previously I use to have a feeling that's really difficult to explain, I just didn't feel right.

Yes, infections can lower your seizure threshold, so that makes sense.

Are you taking any type of medicine for being sick? I've heard that medicines for different illnesses (like the flu for example) can cause the epilepsy meds to not work as they should.

I don't know if your are taking any and if you are, are they over the counter or pescribed by a dr?

Hi, Mom,

Sounds like you have the flu. Ugh. Did the doc culture your throat/do the in-office strep test? That's the only way to tell if it's strep. Not all offices have it, but urgent care facilities usually do. Maybe it's the antibiotic that's getting to you, not the flu. Just a possibility. But a moot point. You have to finish the antibiotic now.

Lots of people in here say they are more prone to seizures when they are sick. I'm not. But then again, on the other hand I had a wicked digestive virus and I had the first complex partial I'd had in almost 9 months. I don't know if it was helped along by the virus, extremely low potassium, or dehydration. All three things existed at the time.

Hmmm...

I still had a fever this morning, when the nurse called to see how things were going. I went back in, and they did a strep culture and turned out positive for strep. :( So, since I started on the antibiotic, she said to continue with that and it will soon start to help and I will feel better soon. I started the symptoms saturday, and by monday morning It got really bad. Tuesday morning I woke up with the fever, which has been going on and off since then. Ive been keeping up on the ibuphrophen. I hate always being the one with the low immune system. The kids are around other kids at school, and my husband is always around many people, with the place he works at. Me being a stay at home mom, Im not around alot of people, so once Im exposed to something, it usually stays with me!

We just went to a indoor water resort last week, so thats probably where I picked it up from.

Im going to continue to take the medication til its gone and pray I get to feeling better soon!

I hope you feel better soon, too!

Yeah, those kids live in a real petrie dish in school. They might as well spread agar and bacteria on themselves, hang out in a 92.5 degree sauna, then come home and hug you.

Rest up. <hugs>

Yeah tell me about it! Seems like anytime my husband or kids get sick and bring something home, Im always the first to get it!

Thanks Endless!

Some of the AEDs and lower your white blood cell count. Don't know if that's the case for you, but it could be contributing...

They checked my blood May 6th...(before getting sick) and all came back normal...

My Red Blood Cell Count was 5.0 (Normal range is 4.0 - 11.0)
My white blood cell count was 4.23 (Normal range is 4.20 - 5.60)

But since my strep test came back positive, Im sure its off since its fighting this crap off! They said not to worry unless the antibiotic doesnt help, which they say they are sure it will.

Im already feeling alot better than I did yesterday! :)

My CBC is below normal due to Lamictal, but luckily I very rarely get sick. I think it's because my house is child-proofed -- they just can't get in no matter how much they try :)
