Does Keppra Mask Smell & Taste ?

It might be a simple partial seizure -- the burning smell is fairly common as a kind of aura, and can be persistent. See:

Hi Rich,
I also take 3000 mgs. of Keppra. I don't experience that "burning smell". As Nakamova said, it more than likely is a simple partial (aura). The keppra may be suppressing your generalized seizures, but you may still be having SP's. I still have some auras, but don't experience those odd smells or tastes. Mine are more of seeing/hearing things that aren't there.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that other people have had similar experiences with Keppra. It has changed my seizures from Complex Partial to Simple Partial. It hasn't changed anything as far as smell goes, but it has definitely changed my hearing and color experiences. It kind of sucks. I also have hearing/color synesthesia and the world seems very hard for me to navigate sometimes without it.

Hi,
I have been on just about every AED known, but now on Keppra 1500mg daily. Yes, your taste and smell can be altered due to the Keppra. It has altered mine. I have a PhD in pharmaceutical science, but when I try to investigate side effects of drugs, most of the package insert information is too general and many symptoms will not be reported for years or decades unless they kill you pretty quick

Keppra has been the best so far, but I still feel like it's messing me up. I have also tried Zonisemide and Lamictal without success and have a very low tolerance to any drugs in general. Are there other side effects of Keppra that you have experienced?

Been on keppra 500 mg twice a day along with 400 mg Dilantin for the last 2 wks. Was told I need to make sure I eat right. I have to really make myself eat. Have never had this problem before. Always loved to eat. Not anymore. Make myself eat then feel sick. Increase keppra to 1500 mg a day starting today. Will be interesting.
