Birdbomb expressed my thoughts exactly. Pharmaceuticals have yet to 'cure' any disease. Researchers ought to be searching for the causes of disease, not a little pill that will treat one symptom, eventually cascading into 10 more. I often chuckle when I see drug advertisements on TV. They usually show someone with an illness - depression (nearly always a female), arthritis, high cholesterol - all happy that their symptoms were relieved by ingesting one of their drugs, and then at the very end slam you with the other diseases and even fatalities it can cause. I can't believe the government even allows pharmaceutical advertising on TV. Why should I have to ask my doctor to consider a certain medication? Shouldn't he be the one to choose my drugs?
I actually bought this book; intend to read it soon...
