e-mailing your dr

I've always called my neuro about problems and it usually takes him a few days to a week for him to get back to me. On a visit I went to 6 months ago he told me that the hospital he works at has a web-site that you are able to send an email directly to your dr. He told me that if I ever have problems to do that instead of calling the office.

I've been having some problems recently and sent him an email in the evening after the office had closed. I got an email reply with help on that issue the next morning telling me to see my PCP and to let him know what he said. I saw my PCP on Friday and sent my neuro an email after the visit. I got a reply from my neuro on a SATURDAY! I couldn't believe that!!!!!

Anyone who has problems getting a hold of their neuro should see if they are able to send emails to the dr instead of calling the office. It seems like the information gets to them faster that way.
 
I have had good and bad experiences with emailing. With my first neurologist I was told by him he would reply within 48 hours but often several days would go by (once as long as 2 weeks) before he replied; so much for that, and I asked to see another doctor.
I currently have two neurologists dealing with different issues. One does not have email so there is the usual problem of receptionists not passing on messages, incorrectly relaying messages, or the doctor not phoning back for a few days or even longer. The other has email and she typically responds to my emails in a couple of hours or less even if it is the weekend or if she is on holidays - pretty darn good I'd say!
 
My current neurologist I see at the epilepsy clinic, usually only contact I have with him is when I see him at the clinic.

All correspondence is through my epilepsy nurse & neuropsych, I usually email them if I have a querrie or have any questions. They will either answer my question themselves or speak to my neuro & get back to me or my neuro will contact me himself.
 
Funny you should mention this. Just had to change insurance and drs. and I now have this option. I will try it out because I am having an issue. Will see how well "technology" plays out in my situation.

The epileptologist I see at University Hospital allows me to email her whenever I have an issue with seizure/meds or the VNS. I've had replies from her even on Sundays, letting me know I could come into the clinic in the next day or two. Especially if I have an issue with my VNS.
 
My neuro doesn't email me himself too often, usually when it's to do with meds.
Back in September I sent my epilepsy nurse an email in regards to a question about my Tegretol. As I emailed her later in the week she got back to me on the Friday, she gave me her answer but said she'd check with my neuro. I thought ok epilepsy nurse would get back to me sometime the following week.

I got an email from my neuro the next day a Saturday with the answer in regards to the Tegretol.
 
I use the same system for emailing as you do, Val. It's great since I see two neurologists through the same company. The office I work at uses it as well.
