E-Reader and Epilepsy

Hey everyone,

Does anyone have Kindle or Kobo here? I was going to buy one of them, but I saw on YouTube videos that they flash a lot. When you turn page (which is white) it flashes black and then goes white again. Can that be a trigger?

My type of epilepsy is Complex Partial Seizure, I am not photo-sensitive, but I don't want to risk it.

Can someone help me?

I have a Kindle e-reader, and there is no flashing at all. I'm not sure why some readers using this device would claim that it does - a malfunction in theirs perhaps. I suppose you might see something resembling flashing if the pages were repeatedly "turned" extremely quickly, but the purpose of the device is to read each page before turning (if you need to go back or forward several pages, there is a "go to" button and it will take you to the page you want to go to in just one step). Just make sure to get a Kindle that has a matte screen so there is no reflection (makes it hard to read in bright light) and if you are concerned, close your eyes or look away from the screen when you turn the page.

Can A Kindle Have Flashing Lights?

I have had a Kindle for over 6 years now, and I have never seen any kind of flashing take place on the screen. masterjen's comment is a great description as far as I am concerned.
The Kindle has made it much easier for me to own and read books, It also has made it less expensive to have books, as long as you keep the batteries charged!
I think that a Kindle makes it easier to have twice as many e-books for the same price that a smaller number of printed books would cost! :clap:

I don't use kindle the lighting do not help me.i use iPad but not for intense reading and even then short periods only.Horses for courses.can you borrow one use it for hour or so see what you think

I also have a Kindle e-reader and have never noticed any flashing on it. In a way the lighting is very similar to using a cellphone. Turning a page has the same lighting as when you call someone, send a text or email.

You can play games and get on the internet on them. Depending on what game you are playing or website you go to there can be flashing on them.

I have a kindle and it doesn't flash, I also use a tablet though. I'm only slightly photosensitive, only certain lights affect me and they just make me sick and headachey. You can download apps that can change the light on the screen on tablets to get rid of the blue light. Some of the new ones have settings, to help. My kindle was one of the first that came out, I think the newer ones are more like tablets? You can play games etc.
