yes that does sound like a great dog! i would love a lilly :ponder: i wonder if i could find a cat like her.......

I have a Bombey that will not leave me if he thinks something is wrong. He is my familiar. When I had a tonic clonic last, which was years ago, the paramedics had trouble with him not leaving my chest.

You certainly can find a cat like that. ;)

CQ,
Sounds like your parents have a great seizure aware dog.
Cint,
Lilly is a labrador/kelpie, she's 10 years old now but my parents have had her since she was a pup. My Mum used to always say Lilly knew when I was having a seizure & she would let them know. I always say Lilly makes a great companion dog. My Dad has a few health issues so if he is in bed because he's not feeling well Lilly will stay with him & lay next to him on the bed.

CQ,
Lilly would be good to have around, especially when in the shower :)

I was once staying at my parents place for a few days, it was just my Mum & I at home as my Dad was away. I was having a bath one day & Lilly stayed by the bath tub with me when I had a partial seizure. I felt the aura come on so sat up real straight (I thought it was easier to sit up then trying to get out of the bath while in a seizure in case I slipped) & stayed like that until the seizure went. I noticed Lilly had walked of just as I felt the aura & when I came out of the seizure she was sitting near the bath.
Not long after the seizure finished I jumped out of the bath.
Later that day I asked my Mum if Lilly had come to see her when I was in the bath, Mum said she wasn't sure because she was really busy doing something at the time. My Mum & I think Lilly went of to warn my Mum that something was wrong but because she was busy she didn't notice Lilly.

What I find amazing is I taught Lilly the basic obedience (sit, stay etc) & the fun stuff like shaking hands lol. Everything else she taught herself.
My parents have 2 smaller dogs who are only 2 years old, I've never had a seizure in front of the little dogs so not sure what they would do if I was to have one.

Whoops sorry Janellie, didnt mean to take over your thread lol.

Hmm, talking about bathroom seizures, lately, well for the last 2 years since I've been on Gabapentin medication, my seizures have occured mostly in the mornings right around the time i use the bathroom. :) Doh#@!$

I had 12 seizures last year and 7 this year, so far and all were in the mornings, within an hour after i wake, except for 2 of them which happened a little after noon time. To me this is a blessing because most drugs I've been on have not been able to control my seizures (refractory) and the seizures would happen at the worst time. The reason they happen in the mornings is because I don't take my med till an hour after I wake up. And this medicine only works for 6 hrs, so in the mornings I'm not on any meds, till i take my first one. So within that hour, i'll normally have the seizure. For me that is a blessing, since i'm in the saftey of my home. In the last 2 yrs, 17/19 seizures being in the morning are odds i like, if only i could have those type of odds at Las Vegas, i would be rich.

Well anyway, I've had my share of shower scenarios, but luckly for me, because of my aura, i have like 1 min before my seizure kicks in full blast. The problem is discerning if it's a false aura or the real thing, but when i'm in a dangerous area, i heed all auras as being the real thing and start my preparation for a seizure. I immediately jump out of the shower get me rob/towel and head to my bedroom to ride out the electrical storm.

EEG, are not the best thing in the world, especially the junk they put in your hair. My results were normal according to my neuro, other than the fact that i had a brain tumor removed.

Zolt,

Auras are great- not that I mean this is a good thing, but what I mean is that auras are like a warning sign and it can save us from having a seizure in a dangerous situation. Hmmmm, I wonder how long Tegretol or Lamictal lasts? Just so I can try "planning" my seizures. But usually my seizures happen at night when I am at home, phewww :) Having an aura with about one minute seems like forever to me! I only get like 4 seconds. However, I cant complain, they are blessings! Best of luck to you.

Hugs,
Janellie :)

Zolt -- why can't your neuro come up with a plan that doesn't leave you with a medication "gap" that makes you vulnerable to seizures? Maybe a larger dose at night? Or an extended-release form? Or a different/adjunct med with a longer half-life?

I've had my share of seizures in the shower, I broken my nose and have busted my head open fallen out several times.

Hi Nakamova,

I could take my medicine as soon as I wake up, which would probably control my morning seizure just like an extended capsule would, like what you are referring to. Seeing how this medicine does not control my seizure all the time, since i had 2 seizure that were outside of my morning window, when i was fully mediated, tells me that if i do take my med as soon as i wake up, then it may postpone my seizures to anytime of the day.

The med does work, but since my seizures are refractory, i'm going to have one no matter what. The lesions on my brain are due to the removal of a tumor that was just slightly bigger than a baseball in volume.

So basically by doing what I do, i'm scheduling my seizures for the morning, in the saftey of my home. Sure beats being on the road and having one, or talking to the new visiting boss and seizing up. Or when upper management comes to take a look at the remote site I manage. All these times I've had seizures, yes, stress does cause them as we all know. Anxiety as well.

So basically i'm happy to have the seizures early in the mornings, i can take the day off and sleep-in, or start hallucinating from the emergency pills i take, if i don't sleep. :)

After having epilepsy for going on 8yrs, i'm glad i finally have some type of control over them now, with this drug Gabapentin. I hate taking drug for a long period of time and no way would i want to support something that I didn't have direct experience with. I just hope there maybe someone out there that i might be able to help with this info. I know we are not all alike, but if there is one person out there that can reproduce this type of control for their seizure, then i'll be happy. Which is the reason I keep repeating my message.

So a larger Gabapentin dose is out of the question?
