I have a question that hopefully someone can help me answer....I am scheduled for a 48hr EEG starting today and in the past they have given me benedryl to help cope with the itching of the electrodes....my question is will the benedryl have any effects on the outcome of the testing? I've had EEG before but always wondered if benedryl dumbed down my brain activity in anyway? Thank you in advance

At least for some folks, Benadryl lowers seizure threshold and can trigger seizures. It's very unlikely that it would dampen any abnormal brainwaves, though it might make you a little sleepy, especially if your EEG is a sleep-deprived one -- that's not necessarily a bad thing, since drowsy states are often the most likely to produce epileptogenic brainwaves.

Good luck with the EEG! I hope it produces helpful results one way or another.
