The worst status epilepticus I had was in march. I got pretty combative because I did not know what was going on, especiall the cat scan. Anyway, Im wondering if it was normal.. that when being given the 2nd dose (at least I think it was the 2nd dose-I still havnt been able to see my records) that they gave me assistance breathing...via mask..; not breathing tube.

Anyway back to the question regarding not breathing that great and hhaving asistance, if Its normal or if there was something else going on with me, and if anyone else had that.

thanks

In future maybe if I am in the same state as complex partial or simple partial status.. I should ask for a different med other than ativan ?

My seizures are almost completly under control, but I just want to know incase it happens again (as it did on the 4th july)

You might

want to discuss this with your neuro, and see what they have to say.

In regards to whether or not I have had breathing assistance before or not.... that I cannot honestly tell you. I do know that I have had quite a number of seizures, and a few have landed me in the hospital. I do not know if I was given assistance with breathing or not. There are E patients, though, and not a small number, that do require assistance on occasion.

I went to the ER on the 5th of this month for having more than usual number of seizures. I just started Keppra XR (changed from Keppra to XR) and still taking Tegretol XR. Anyways, my friend called 911 and they checked my suger levels, med/blood levels and gave me Oxygen both in the ambulance and in the hospitol. It was not for the full stay but it did help with getting my levels back up. During a complex partial, I don't breath real and they give me oxygen to help. Normally after 20min or so they stop it. The first ER trip for a seizure, they used oxygen for 30 min or so which I thought was not necessary but they told me my levesl were low. I didn't notice anything or wasn't in pain etc.

Some people stop breathing totally during a seizure, but the body will restart everything after the seizure is done. Most of the times, oxygen will stop a person from being dizzy after a seizure or help bring the levels back to a more normal state. It wakes me up faster after a seizure or in postictal state.

I hope that your doing better and you won't end up in the ER/Hospital again with seizure troubles.
Take care,
Crystal

This happened to Aidan once, but was apparently the ER screwed up and gave him to much IV Ativan. He had to be bagged for awhile and we spent a couple nights in the Special Care Unit.

May I ask how old Aidan is ? that is what I was getting at regarding the bag, which it what happend. Ativan really dopes me up anyway so I was pretty much out of it but I do remember them helping my breathe via that and wondered if it was normal. My last EEG i remember my neuro ( I have simple and conmplex partials) asking "can you breathe" right before I went into the complex. So, maybe that coupled with doses of ativan did require being bagged, I dont know hopefully it wont happen again cause my seizures are getting controlled almost, Im happy...I started neurontin along with lamictal 2 days ago, so HOPEFULLY no doses of ativan that leave you neededing people help you breathe and feeling utter **** for the next few days
