Experience with docs. Good or bad?

Fortunately my first neurologist was a wonderful man. He was head Neurologist at NYU Medical Center...yet he took the time to explain everything to me and try to ease my shock. His name was Dr. Ransohoffer, but I called him "Uncle Joe", because he was like a kind, caring uncle.

Dr. Orrin Devinsky-- head neurologist at NYU Langone Medical Center - is suppossed to be like that too.

I guess NYU has the knack of hiring caring docs!

I've had some terrible experiences with epileptologist at Emory/university in Atlanta,GA I live like 15 mins by car from.
They don't seem pay attention.
One doc never figured it was TegretolXR that increased my seizures that I'm med resistant to.I quit him when back to my original neuro who sent me this guy he took me right off Tegretol XR back on Tegretol my seizures went back to normal.
Another epileptologist at Emory I was put in the hospital for VEEG so I was taken off all my meds never put me back on my after the Veeg.
when I confronted her about it she said she put me back on my meds.
I wouldn't recomend the neurologist at Emory except for a few.

I asked someone on Epilepsy.com: "Could you please tell me WHAT the best neurologists and clinics in Atlanta are? I have a friend who is having real bad luck with Emory docs and she is suffering."

The American Epilepsy Society as well as the Epilepsy Foundation provide listings of epilepsy specialists. The National Association of Epilepsy Centers also provides a list of its member centers, organized by state.

Interesting. I have heard the opposite about about Dr. Devinsky from a former patient of his. I guess everyone can have a different experience.

That is interesting. Everyone's experience is so different. The epileptologist I used to see when I lived in Memphis (she's now in Boston), I thought she was a kind, caring individual, but at a gala, I heard another patient express his opinion, which was the opposite of mine. And the same here in Denver, also. I had to change my epileptologist because of the difference in treatment/care. And in the fund raising events I have gone to, I hear pros and cons for both.

My neurologist got a good rating from a patient on an E site, but I am not so fond of her. She's a lousy listener, is hard to reach, and is a little too cozy with the drug companies IMHO. I don't need to see her for much at this point, so I put up with her. I figure switching neurologists is a bit like changing meds -- you might get something better, but you might end up with some lousy side effects...

My neuro here in canada looks like an alien. Dr. Mallory Denton Fast. He is real informative but blunt and sort of an a$$. But I like him. lol

There are reputable epileptologist in Atlanta the two I'd recomend Dr. Henry and a Dr.Charles Epstein at Emory and that's it.
There both caring and I 've known them for years use to see Dr.Henry an dI know Dr.Epstein from years ago he has a good reputation.
