I was watching a documentary last night on Isaac Newton and they mentioned he had epilepsy, so I looked up on the internet about famous people who had epilepsy and the results absolutely astounded me. There were some amazing people on there. And there are doctors that actually believe that people who have epilepsy have increased intelligence or special talents due to the increase of the firing of the neurons. Just to think. We are geniuses. :woot:

I've seen that too. There are also people who believe people with epilepsy have psychic powers though none of that has been proven.

I Moved your post from the foyer (where new members can introduce themselves) to the kitchen (where everyone seems to gather at a party).

haha thats actually funny you say that. in no way do i condone or promote psychics but my mom always says i can read her mind, plus i do that with my sister as well. and it seems i can do that with others. maybe its just because i know them so well.

Thats funny you mention people with Epilepsy have psychic powers.... I lost my cousins almost 9 years ago, (June 30, 2002) and since then, Ive been experiencing alot of weird things. Like sensing someone was watching me, or near me when Im alone, smelling their scents, Like my cousins perfume she always wore (Charlie White) and her brother's scent. I would even come across people that would resemble them, and for some reason those people kept making eye contact with me, people I didnt even know! I would hear songs that I knew my cousins both liked, and at the same time smell their scents and feel this warmth around me. It was weird one day, I was driving to the store, when a song came on, a song my little cousin loved! All of a sudden it felt like I was in the sun, this warmth came around me and I smelled his cologne that he always had in his car. I'll have to ask exacly what the name of his colonge was, but everytime I smell that, it reminds me of him.

Now Its only been me thats had these experiences, not their mom, my mom, relatives, ect. My aunt (their mother) thinks its neat that they are communicating with me. She calls me often to ask if anything "New" came about.

I guess it could explain why Im having these things happen to me, since I have Epilepsy, and no other relatives of mine has Epilepsy? :ponder:

wow that is so cool. but im sorry to hear about your loss. ive always considered myself a skeptic of those kinds of things, but however i do believe after reading what doctors, scientists and personal accounts of people with epilepsy wrote, we can have a "sixth sense". the only problem is that its hard to medically or scientifically prove it, and when you tell someone they just look at you weird. its almost the same as when socrates wrote the original book on epilepsy a long time ago, because they believe he had it. despite his beliefs, people still thought people with epilepsy were possessed. :ponder:

Yeah, since losing my cousins, Ive just had this weird kind of funny feeling that they were always around me. Even having vivid dreams that seemed so real. When I dream, I wake up not remembering alot of what I had dreamed about, but anytime I dream about them, i wake up remembering everything. Like it really did happen. On days where we can open the windows, and get some fresh air in the house, I can walk through the livingroom and into our bedroom to smell their scent. I get it alot around our house, my mothers house, and my aunts house. I never really put Epilepsy together with being able to have those experiences. Its kind cool to think about though. :)

And for those who haven't looked it up before the famous people include: Napoleon Bonaparte, Socrates, Vincent van Gogh, Alexander the Great, Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie, Julius Caesar, Michaelangelo, Aristotle, Leonardo Da Vinci, Alfred Nobel, Lewis Carrol, George Handel, plus many others.....so we are in a pretty top drawer club.

i wonder if aristotle has any valid proof of his hypothesis that epilepsy can enhance a person's abilities or if he just said that because he was smarter than everyone else during his time. lol

For a long time I refused and battled against having seizures. But now that they have refused to go away instead of feeling sorry for myself I think of the positive changes that have happened because of this.I might still be broke because I cant work yet but I can spend more time with my family and with gardening and find some volunteer work that I would not have been able to do before.Heck,I might even make a difference in someone elses life because of this-now if I can get past the side effect AGAIN! Epi upped my trileptal to 1800 mg plus the 300mg zonergran and now the 1mg risperdral.for what they call interictal psychosis.Hey--but at least Im getting another VEEG on July 26--yippeee!!!

well that really has nothing to do with this thread, but its so awesome that you have a positive outlook on life. i wish i could but with the side effects of my meds its almost impossible even if i wanted to.

try to not think of it as being psychic
without having someone tell you their mood it's easy to tell if they're happy or sad from their expression

newborn babies can interpret these things
but people's expressions are far more complex than smile/frown
and so is ability to see the complexity
facial tics and the like

"psychics" have jobs telling people what stocks to buy on wallstreet - based on 'indicators'
humans have systems of indicators
and the world has systems of indicators!

and speaking of people with epilepsy, from what i've seen isaac newton used mathematics to predict the end of the world to be 2060. the way things are going, sometimes i hope he's right

I think I have heard that many of these people also are suspected of having had autism. People with autism are more likely to have seizures.

I have heard that many artists suffer from Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. I think it is part of the epileptic personality or what is called Geschwin Syndrome. I have TLE and I have been a practicing visual artist since I was a teenager, I go a little bit crazy if I cant paint at least a couple of times a week. I also have a friend who is TLE and she is a practicing artist. I can paint very detailed images for hours at a time and become very focused and ignore outside influences. I definitely think this is something to do with the epilepsy. I also have Grand Mal. Cheers Anne.
