hi all

i am on Lamictin and Topamax. I have been seizure free for 3 yrs minus 1 grand mal i had a year ago when i had the flu. but over the past few months i have been having "seizure feelings". my neurologist increased my topamax but i only got a lot of side effects and the feeling dimmed slightly but didn't go away. he is now decreasing them to even less than i was on before and the "feeling" is worse than ever and i am not even on my old dose. i am not sure if it is an aura as i haven't had a seizure, could it be warning or what is it?

please if anyone could help.

Hi Tam = welcome...
I am not a medical doctor, so this is just a guess...
just as with any medication there are changes in your system trying to adapt to the addition of a new chemical. Well it happen when you reduce the chemical as well. Your body has been dependent on this for quite some time and it now is making noises that you are not giving it that chemical. You might see if you can decrease it even slower.

These drugs are very powerful, and I would make the guess that it is the drug reacting.

Make sure your nutrition is at its best, that you are drinking enough water, that you are getting plenty of rest, and that you try not to stress over the changes. Think positive if you can. You might just be on your road to feeling the best you have felt in a long time.

I know what you mean, Tam135. I am up right now, right now being 2:48 a.m., because I am wired from having a small increase in the dosage of one of my medicines.
 
Trust yourself. The body often tells us when things are not right, but most people don't know how to listen. My :twocents:
 
Even though I haven't had a seizure in 3 years, I have on occation had those feelings of an impending seizure. I take myself out of whatever situation I am in. Usualy it's outside doing some type of yardwork and just take it easy for a while. I am lucky these sensations do not happen very often.

Is there anything triggering these episodes for you?

I am eating healthily and drinking water. i drink water on and off all day. The problem is the chemical isnt new. it was just increased, and now with the decrease (from this week i am on my old dose) Topamax 75mg twice a day excluding my Lamicitn. but the feeling just wont go away. i am hoping you are right as it took me 9 years to get my epilepsy under control and that i will feel better than ever but i am afraid that i will start seizing when i least expect it.

Thats what i keep telling myself. That something is not right. My family keeps saying that everything is ok and i must be positive but i have a bad feeling about it and about what is going to happen.

There is no particular time that i get them. When i was having seizures - i would get petite and grand mals, they would be triggered by sunlight and only sunlight. Now these feelings i am getting happen anytime whether i am at work on the computer or outside in the sun. i could be driving (which is very worrying) or it occasionally happens at night. so that is why i am not sure wht is triggering it or what "it" even is only that something isnt right.
 
There have been several times that I have had an aura without a seizure. Especially when I am on meds. Maybe you are having an aura? Just no seizure following it.

The problem with my auras, it feels quite like when I am about to pass out due to a heart problem that I have. So sometimes I don't know whether I am having an aura or about to pass out because of my heart problem.
 
I have had seizures during a dream sometimes when I'm sleeping. It's just strange.
 
I've been on many seizure meds.

If I were you make sure the doctor has prescribed the correct medication for the type of seizures you always have and keep a log of those seizures and side effects it will be very important to your treatment. Also topomax can mess up your vision. So report any little change. Take care.

Tam - I can't tell from your post and profile if you are male or female.
I was told by Rebecca's current neurologist that hormones can increase and decrease the drug load in your system, depending on the medicine.
Guess this could happen with men too, but she was suggesting it more for females, since my daughter is obviously one.

Just thought I would throw that out.
Sorry for bringing that up if you are a guy...
