I am fairly new to all this, but have realized that I have had seizures from time to time since I was very young, and now there are some things that make a lot of sense. When I was little, like all kids I liked watching fire works, but always felt bad afterward, and the next day. As I got older, I just did not really like them for some reason, except for spending the time with my own kids. I now realize that the reason is the flashing lights. Just like kids that would turn my bedroom light on, and off, that would upset me, or sunlight flashing through the trees. I guess at least I know what was wrong.

yes, it's like like a light going on (pun intended :) ) when you realize with hindsight that certain reactions were actually epilepsy symptoms.

Strange question but I'm curious after reading this fireworks topic......can the constant flash of fireworks set off seizures in photo....darn, how do you say that...GRRR!, flashing light sensetive (there we go, that'll work) :) epilepsy? Lights never bothered me, I'm just curious.

Im photosensetive but a mild one,im affected only when my eyes are closed to falshing lights, only video games can affect me while i play after a long exposure and that's when i was off meds.now its fine.

You probebly are photosensetive of some sort (there are many forms),if you will do an eeg ask for photic stimulation to see wheter you are sensetive to flashing lights or not

Again, lights don't bring them on for me ....just something I thought of out of the blue yesterday considering..... In fact, I had once asked 1 of my police instructors that taught traffic procedures (traffic stops, ticket-writing, accident investigation, traffic directing, etc.) if it's possible if the flashing lights of a squad or ambulance or fire truck or even those ones they have on the back of the roof on school buses now could bring them on and what if anything could be done about it if it would happen to anyone. (Just yet another point as to why much more education needs to be done on this condition in society.)

There are trians in the town I live in-I don't like those either!

Nothing can't be done unless you know what the triggering it,some people are effected just by starring at bright light, some effected from discotec balls spinning some effected from photic stimulation with or without closed eyes, some will be effected only from a certain color.i know that normal flashes can bother me but only fast bright flashes can actually provoke me to have a seizure and since its myoclonic i can actually stop my self by opening the eyes before it happens, now since on keppra i can even stare directly into death (seizure) in the eyes :p and barely feel any inconvinence.

Like i said again nothing can be done, just like nothing could be done with that special episode of pokemon in japan back in 1997 which made them develop the drug zonegran after millions even those that waren't photosensetive officialy, had a seizure during the screening of the episode.

I am a lot better since I have been on medication. I just never knew as a child why I would try to go away from these things, and get a weird sick feeling in the pit of my stomach! I think it mostly a habit now that I don't care for them, or fear.
