First grand mal seizures ever...

Hello everyone so I had a crazy couple days last week. I usually have petit-mal seizures, well last Wednesday I had 3 grand-mal seizures & was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. I don't remember anything & was basically in a small coma for a day & a half. I had one grand-mal seizure at home & 911 was call the other seizures I had at the hospital. I had a total of 3 grand-mal & 2 petit-mal seizures. I had a ct scan & it came back normal, same with an eeg. This has all been told to me by my family since I really don't remember anything. I remember bits & pieces from in the ambulance & seeing the cart come into my home. But that's basically it. My hands/wrists still hurt, left hand is a bit swollen. They had had trouble with the ivs. It's been a scary experience.

Sorry to hear about the experience you went through, its not fun having a grand mal. The good news is you came through it all, you must have hurt your hand by hitting it off something. It will take a few days to come around and for the brain to kick in. Its good to have you back.
 
After all those muscles contracting they can get very sore. It sounds like you're experiencing that along with other effects. I've had epilepsy most my life and only had a few t/c seizures and that started just a few years ago. Mine didn't effect me nearly as much. Hope you recover quickly.
 
Thank you both, it's been a scary experience so I'm gonna hopefully be seeing my dr sooner. I've had my epilepsy my whole life but like I said grand-mal hasn't started til this last week.
 
So sorry you've had a grand mal. My very first seizures were grand mal ones -- like you, I had one grand mal followed by more in the hospital. I can still summon up how scary and painful the moment was when I regained consciousness. Be very gentle on yourself as you recover -- take your time to heal.

I hope your doctor will help figure out if there was a specific trigger for the seizures and what the next best steps should be.
 
The feeling you get when you shed your initial denial is something I'd wish on no one. I wish you nothing but comfort & understanding as you move forward.
 
I'm glad you are home and recovering. It's awful to feel so terrified and confused but it gets better. I had your same card shuffling thing with my cell phone. Trying to make a call with my cell phone was suddenly foreign and difficult. I kept ending up on screens I didn't recognize with no one dialed. It totally freaked me out, but eventually cleared up.
 
I'm sorry, and I know how unsettling it is. I had complex partials for decades before I had a grand mal--I couldn't believe it happened when they told me, as I didn't think it was even possible after all that time. I know it's scary to see your seizures change and feel so 'off.' We are all here for you--just keep taking care of yourself each and every day.
