Hey guys how you all doing? Right have a question I got this new thing going on where every so often I'll get a flash behind my eyes like lightning on a Dark night i guess it'll go on all days sometimes anyone gave ant insight too what it may be, thanks in advance

can be the meds Maisy, like valpro can cause just this.....check the potential side effects of the meds u r on...

I had this when I was on Tegretol as well. I was never sure if it was a pre seizure thing or not. Of note is that people with migraines, even ones without pain, can get this sort of flash as an aura of sorts.

Thanks never read it in the side effects but side effects are never exsaustive 30 people have too report it before it gets in the bnf and on the leaflets :-)

I have the same sort of aura, as I have figured out for me it's a precurser to my seizures. It doesn't happen as often since I have been off keppra, but I still have seizures

I've had the same flashes for about two years now. my nuero keeps telling me to the opto but to tell you the truth I'm scared to find out something else is wrong now!what I'm trying to find out today is does any one have problems that may sound as if they have type 1 diabetes too or if may be connected? I all the symtoms! but surelydon't know!

maggymudpie,

If you're concerned that you might have diabetes or pre-diabetes, better to find out sooner rather than later. Ask your regular doc to do a test for diabetes. This usually consists of a "fasting blood sugar" test. You fast overnight and then you have your blood drawn at an early morning doctor's visit. They then test the sample to see if your blood sugar is in the normal range. Usually the doc will do a second test -- it might be a random blood sugar test rather than a fasting one -- to confirm the results.

We do have at least one member --- Cint -- who has diabetes and seizures. Generally, low blood sugar can be a seizure trigger for many folks, even if diabetes isn't involved.

Some diabetes symptoms (blurry vision, hair loss, blood pressure changes) can also be medication side effects, so it can be very helpful to pin down or rule out a particular cause.

I have all the symtems and mean all off them! I called the doc to see if they ran a diabetes test and she said just the random and it was fine. but they didn't have me fast or any thing! I lost 70 pounds in one year without even trying, I have the blurred vision mater how much I eat I can't gain it back!! and I've lost pretty much all my teeth to abseses. I've been for a long time blaming a lot of these things on side effects from my meds I take for the seizures, but now can it a double whammy?
