Since this Monday I contracted a very very bad flu (fever, throwing up, diarrhea, HORRIBLE headache, etc etc). I went into a depression that was unlike any before--and I didn't even really realize it. Called my doctor all week begging for pain relief because I couldn't sleep at all, but she kept making excuses (turns out she just doesn't like giving out pain medication). Sleep deprivation makes me INSANE. Also I was throwing up my meds because of flu.
I look back at some of the posts I made a few days ago and I can barely remember writing them. They are very suicidal sounding. I also called my parents and told them how suicidal I was. I had a few very strange complex partials, auras, and just odd behavior I can't remember that was later told to me by friends. My guy friend came over and I was staring blankly with a spatula in my hand for example and was unable to speak. I also hallucinated that my dad was cursing at me when in fact he was just speaking normally. Called my ex boyfriend who I was mending things with and started screaming at him. I also started yelling at my mom to make the pain stop because I thought I was going insane from depression + the physical pain.
I went to the ER last night and they said I had bronchitis, GI flu, extreme dehydration, lack of oxygen, etc. I also was in full seizure in the hospital. They gave me pain meds and I swear I broke down and cried from relief as the week long headache finally dissipated. My mom cried too because she said she thought I was lying about the physical pain...? weird thing to say right?
I also had my period this week *lucky me* which made me feel insane.

Anyway, have any of you had very strange reactions when epilepsy is combined with a flu?

I've had some very strange things happen from seizures + depression, not necessarily combined with flu also. Plus, the hormones can play a HUGE part in your mind/seizures, so with it being that time, weird things can/do happen with seizures. Sounds like you were having seizures with you holding the spatula and the hallucinations of your dad. There have been several times I've had hallucinations as part of my aura and with my CP seizures I just stare at folks, unable to speak or speak gibberish, with a far away look in my eyes.

What is temporal lobe epilepsy?
The features of seizures beginning in the temporal lobe can be extremely varied, but certain patterns are common. There may be a mixture of different feelings, emotions, thoughts, and experiences, which may be familiar or completely foreign. In some cases, a series of old memories resurfaces. In others, the person may feel as if everything—including home and family—appears strange. Hallucinations of voices, music, people, smells, or tastes may occur. These features are called “auras” or “warnings.” They may last for just a few seconds, or may continue as long as a minute or two.

I'm glad you finally went to the ER for some relief. Your dr. shouldn't put patients' suffering off like she did. Time to find a new dr., IMO.

So very glad to hear you found out what was going on. Your previous posts were indeed scary. I agree with Cint that your doctor should never have left you like this especially when it ends up being "bronchitis, GI flu, extreme dehydration, lack of oxygen, etc"

:hugs: Dolores

There's not really anything a doctor can prescribe for a stomach virus. And if you think you're dehydrated, the best thing you can do is go to the ER so they can give you saline through an IV to rehydrate you since your doctor cannot do that either. But that's no reason for her to blow you off. Someone at the office should have told you to go to the ER from the beginning with those symptoms.
