You already know that doing something nice for someone else gives you a boost. Now science is confirming that instinct: Researchers at York University in Great Britain found that study participants who spent no more than 15 minutes acting with kindness toward someone else each day for a week had significant upticks in their own happiness and self-esteem. Most notably, those benefits lasted for six months after that one selfless week.
