So I've read a few people commenting in passing about growing out of seizures. Normally they refer to kids growing out of it after puberty or something like that.

What if your seizures start later than that (mine was at 22)? Can you still grow out of them? That'd be a nice thought to have in my head.

That would be a nice thought. But from what I was told, it only apply's to a child. Even at that it is not a guarantee. So it has to be hard on parents - given a little hope and later its taken away. But there is always hope and all of us need that.

I was told.that I could possibly be taken off my meds in two years, and I'm 25. idk.

My seizures started when I was 22 years old and only progressed over the years. I've never been told I could be taken off meds and I've been on them now for over 30 years.
It depends on the type of E and if they're controlled well. We're all different.

I have tonic clinics but have never had more than 3 in a month, and it's usually just one now that my meds are upped. I know my biggest factor is areas, so maybe my neuro thinks ill be less stressed in two years, lol. He's the the brightest crayon in the box, so don't mind me. :-) maybe he just said that because I was sobbing in his office about taking pills forever.

I suppose one situation where someone might "grow out" of their seizures as an adult, would be if they were catamenial seizures (i.e. related to fluctuating estrogen levels). It's possible that such seizures could diminish post-menopause.

You could look at the diary of the host / hostess of this website.
I think it is possible to find the right remedy whatever that may be, my seizures are better controlled than they were ten years ago and I hope they continue to flicker away into only a dim memory even if medication is a daily necessity.

Hi

I was diagnosed with tuberose sclerosis complex at about 6 months old and i took a few meds before the doc settled on tegretol Cr tablets.I was fortunate that they worked for my absence seizures (i did feel like a walking pill box though!) and i weaned off it when i was 21, im now almost 28 and i have had no problems.

I still have to get yearly driving assessments but thats the only thing that i have tokeep doing for me with the epilepsy.

I honestly dont know how it happened and why and as another thing im never sure if its ok "for now" and if i should expect them to come back and if they did whether it would be the same type or not. Both my kids have the same thing so i really hope how it is for me will be something they can look forward to.
