so I spoke to doc on phone and shes wanting me to change from keppra to vimpat which I don't want to! she says I can maybe get off it once ive been on anti depressant for a while.... what I don't get is....... isn't changing my tabs and putting me on anti depressant at the same time gonna effect me??? why cant they keep me on keppra until I be on anti depressants a while

I feel like stopping keppra and not talking the vimpat! I cant just keep taking keppra now as they have change the tablets in my med records :( nothing ever goes how I want! and they never seem to listen to me! I don't need to be on 2 meds it effects my side effects to much and I don't need to be I near been free 2 years!

do u think if I just didn't take the med vimpat they can cut me off and not help me in the future?

Perhaps been on two different meds will make you feel a bit better, after all everyone is different.Generally most people are on two meds or maybe more on some occasions.Im on Epilim and Tegratol as well as an anti-depressant,and i still suffer from break through seizures from time to time. But you know your body and your epilepsy better than anyone. Therefore you are in the best position to tell the doctor and neuro how you are feeling, wishing you the best off luck HOB.

Are you taking 800 mg of Tegretol for depression, I didn't know it was prescribed as such. Meanwhile, did you check to see if you're vitamin D deficient and Magnesium deficient (tegretol will do that)? That could lead anyone for a quick depression. You would know if you take vitamin D and feel dramatically better within the hour, make sure to get the good stuff, cheap vit Ds aren't good for you.

Hand of blood,

I'm on 800 mg of Tegretol 4000mg of generic Keppra and working up to 300mg of lomotgine plus the citalopram. I do have side effects like sleeping alot but I have no issues with the citalopram messing with all the seizure meds. I've never been on vimpat so I can't give you any advise on it. But before November of last year I had never been on Keppra either. If the vimpat. You just have to trust your doctor and know if any of these meds don't work the doctor is just going to keep trying until they find the right combination.

Good luck HOB

No I'm not on tegretol for depression but they are trying to make me go on anti depressants while changing from keppra to vimpat at the same time I think it's crazy

Sounds odd to me too, I'm not a neurologist myself, but I always make sure to get more than one doctor's opinion, it's the safest.

So I took my anti depress tab this morning and I'm so drowsy now :( there's no way I can change my other meds at the same time. I dunno what to do!

That sounds a bit much in one go to me, you are going to get side effects from all directions.
Cant you book an appointment with your gp and get them to hold off on the anti depressants till you have sorted your meds, you could get a review with the same GP when that's sorted to look at starting the anti depressants then?

Think I'm going to ask them if I can just stay on keppra and tegretol now until the anti dep get settled. Then my big plan is to get off keppra and someday change my tegretol
I hate being on keppra but I don't want to be on vimpat heard such bad things I know everyone different but I get such bad side effects from my low doses

I do like it for not effecting liver etc. but it has doubled all my side effects I got from tegretol and has made me so depressed and angery at everyone. It's a pitty too coz once I took it my sezures stopped

Just be careful cutting down on the Keppra, they really shouldn't drop that med right off the bat. It might not affect you, some people don't go through the withdraw process but I did. Not a fun time. Just make sure whatever they decrease or increase they do it slowly. With these meds you can never be to careful.

I am taking Keppra along with Nortriptyline which is an anti-depressant at the same time, both of them prescribed by my Neurologist. I'm taking Nortriptyline for my Neuropathy at night. Makes me very sleepy but it hasn't affected me otherwise as for interacting with the Keppra. He prescribed it cause he said it was the most tolerable and safe to take with Keppra.

I take the meds at least 2 hours apart so it's not disolving into my blood stream at the same time. I've always wondered why the Neurologists prescribe so many different medications for the same disorders and symptoms.
