The reason I'm asking if anyone has changed the time that they take their medication, is that I'm thinking of trying to change my from 6:00AM to 10:00AM. I wander if it will make a diff. in the brain frog.

When I take my 6:00AM dose, it's on an empty stomach, so would it make a difference that by 10:00AM I have eaten.

It depends a bit how sensitive you are to the trough medication level in your system. (That's when it's at its absolute lowest during the day). Ordinarily, Dilantin has a relatively long half-life, so you should be able to shift your dosing time by a few hours without any problems.

With my meds I've shifted taking them a few hours either way without any problems -- hope that's the same for you.

I have changed my Keppra time and I didn't have any issues. I think the trick is to do it gradually... For example, if it doesn't affect you too much, take it slightly later at night, and the next morning you can take it slightly later, and then slightly later again the next night so you aren't adding too much time between doses. Maybe thirty minutes to an hour or so at a time (depending on what your body can handle). I had to travel across the country and was taking my medication at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. On the west coast (where I went), it would've been 5 a.m. and 5 p.m., which wasn't going to work well for me on vacation, so I just built up to taking it later. Didn't have any issues with seizure activity that week...

i changed the time i take it at night because i had more seizures in the evenings than during the day. i used to take it at any time i felt like and now i make sure i have taken it by 8pm. it must have made a difference because i haven't had any seizures for about four months now

I take Dilantin & Phenobarbital. I just split my dosage between morning and night (generally right before I eat) but I don't take them at specific times. My friend takes Lamictal at 6am & 6pm. I am constantly amazed that she can remember it's time to take her medication. I can't remember disjointed details like that no matter how important. I even have forgotten to take it in the morning or evening if I don't happen to notice my pill box.

I do keep tabs on my Dilantin blood levels to make sure they aren't too low should I forget to take a dose. A doctor told me I could take it all at one time, no need to have 2 doses/day. The problem was that sometimes on weekends with the change in routine I wouldn't notice my pills and would end up missing an entire day or 2. Which eventually resulted in a seizure so I went back to the twice a day.

My bigger problem with Dilantin is overdosing on it. Happens every so often and is better than having a seizure once I figured out what was happening.

I know it would be best to take it pills at a set time but I've never had a seizure because I didn't. I just make sure I take all the pills I'm supposed to.

Hope that helps
