I was just prescribed Gabapentin (Neurontin) to treat insomnia. 30 years ago I used it for epilepsy. It is supposed to help people with insomnia reach a deep sleep.

It was Rebecca's second medication trial. Had to stop it when suicidal tendencies began to surface. Not a fun time. Thankfully it has not been a problem since she has been off of meds.

Insomnia treatment is one of the more recent "off-label" uses for Neurontin. Because of that, there aren't a ton of studies out there confirming it as a sleep aid. But if it works for you, with minimal side effects, then that's great.

This is one medication that really was bad for me. It caused serious anger issues and extreme depression with suicidal thoughts, so please keep a close watch on your behavior.

I'd be leery of using medication off-label. The track records for big pharma pushing for off-label usage is frightening.

I was suffering badly from insomnia about a year ago. My Dr. had me try clonazepam. That has helped greatly in my case. I was a little leary of going on yet another med, but I was about over the edge due to lack of sleep. Now, I am afraid to not take it for fear of going back to that horrible place again.
