Other problems I have: acid reflux. I got that years ago, while taking tegretol. I don't know if that's related. For years I took generic rinitidine (which I think is the ingredient in - oh now I don't remember - one of the earliest acid reducers). It was the only one I could afford. After years of that and reading of its side effects of food not digesting properly and nutrients lost I got off it. Hardest thing I ever did, since it made the acid production skyrocket until I got used to not having it.

Now I just do a tums now and then, but nothing seems to work perfectly. I have learned to live life in a strictly verticle position from my waist up as any bending immediately brings up the acid. Many nights I am forced to sit up to sleep. It really affects my quality of life.

Plus, the coffee that helps me counter the sleepiness produces acid. I recently weaned off most of my caffeine, but now I'm napping a lot. Sheesh.

Ahem, also have constipation a lot which I try to control with diet. Love those prunes!

It quite likely is related. Tegretol should never be taken on an empty stomach.
