Because I feel like a bottomless pit lately. Coincidence? What are your experiences with Vimpat and appetite?

I'm also newly on Dilantin--could this be the culprit?

I tried Vimpat last year and it didnt work for me... but I dont recall having an increase in appetite. The depressing, not caring at all attitude and the way i was feeling was what caused me to get off of it. I just was a completely different person on it. I felt horriable, had alot of "bad" thoughts go through my head.

Ive never tried Dilantin, at least not that i know of... so I wouldnt know how that could affect you.

Thanks, Kristin. I had that happen to me with Keppra, it was awful. I hope Vimpat doesn't do the same, yikes! LOL! *crossing fingers*

jemsister's

Sorry jemsister but I agree with everything momof3boys has said especially the the depression and the thoughts. Still cannot get off it but no it decreased my appetite.

Having taken both, i'd implicate the Dilantin before the Vimpat. But it's hard to say for sure.

That's the crazy thing with these scarily non-specific drugs; we all react differently and there's seemingly no end to the extent and number of side-effects they can produce.

Sorry. No increase of appetite with vimpat. Perhaps you're having a renewed interest in the true joys of life...like food? Haha. Keppra gave me a lack of appetite and insomnia so now I'm eating normally again with vimpat.
These "magic" drugs all have their own effects on everybody.
Is this an unwelcome side effect for you?
I don't know about dilantin though. It just gave me the itchies and hives.

On Dilantin, but came off Vimpat recently. No increased appetite for me, in fact, I often had to remind myself to eat, (or my body did that for me in the form of dizziness, shaking, etc) because I was often too drowsy or feeling lousy to care.

I don't mind the increased appetite--I'm chronically underweight. It's just new to me. Ha. XP Interesting though, sounds like maybe not the Vimpat after all... we'll see. Dilantin is new too, but I'm going to dump that one, so I'm curious to see how I feel when it's gone.

DITTO. :agree:
Exactly my reaction too, had no desire for anything but crying all day. Stopped caring about everything around me. Have agreed to go back on tho in small doses for my doctor's sake; so far she has done everything my way so I'm gonna do one for her as she's very confident in it. If I have the same reaction she'll take me off asap.
Didn't affect the appetite tho.

My daughter had increase in appetite from Trileptal. When she changed to Lamictal she lost weight. She added Vimpat in March with no increase in appetite, actually I think she's still losing gradually.

Keppra gave her the depression and not caring feelings too, she only lasted 6 days on that one.
