Hello,

Yesterday I had a rough day of "episodes". I had 2 of MY normal ones where I get the deja vu, warm rush, and semi-conscious pass out. In between, however, the most bizarre thing happened. I'm curious if anyone has experienced this or if I'm just crazy :loco: ; )

My husband and I were sitting in the living room. We were in the middle of the conversation when I suddenly blanked out, apparently. I don't remember what we were talking about. I was staring at him and my hands felt like super heavy. I started to freak out saying that I couldn't lift my hands. They felt like lead pipes or something. He picked up on my right hand and asked if I could feel his hand and to squeeze. I said I could feel his hand but I couldn't figure out how to make my hand move. It was so weird. It felt like an eternity but it was probably just a minute. I was looking at my hands and concentrating on making them move. I've been waking up with numb hands for some time now but don't know if that is related to any of this. It could just be carpal tunnel?

Could I have been having some sort of seizure?

Thank you,

Stacey

Hi, Stacey,

You promised something bizarre, and here it is. I don't get heavy hands, but I bet someone in here does. Wish I could help you more, but here's some food for thought.

You should call your doctor immediately, just to rule this out. A stroke could cause numbness, tingling, heaviness, and an inability to move your hands or other limbs. It's probably not a stroke or a TIA, but if it is it's quite serious and you need it tended to FAST. TIAs can cause localized symptoms, not paralyze a huge part of your body. And they repeat themselves.

It could also be as simple as a pinched nerve.

Another possibility: Have you been taking Xanax? Heavy limbs are a side effect of withdrawal. Some people get withdrawal symptoms if they just forget one or two doses.

Frontal lobe seizures cause uncontrollable movement in limbs. I wonder if it could also cause uncontrollable non-movement in limbs?

I did a google search and found the below posts, so I know you aren't alone:

...Sam has often described his hand as being full of sand or sand and water when he has simple partial seizures. He said this was both arms and legs and felt different
.

I'm wondering, too, if this could be related to "Alice-in-wonderland" syndrome. It's when your sense of perception warps, including your perception of your body. (your hand may feel heavy, look like a funny shape, or look really big or small). Wikipedia says it's from migraines, but it's a type of seizure, too.
