Help!! Citalopram + Seizures ????

ive just been put on citalopram but have been suffering seizures quite badly ... and ive just read in the leaflet that you shouldnt take citalopram if you have epilepsy or you have to stop it if it makes your seizures worse ???

im wondering if anyone has had any experience of this ??
 
I am taking Citalopram and have been on it since March. My neuro Psych says it has to be closely monitored. I now it can mess with my Tegretol levels. So far no issues as to seizures. It has totaly helped me. My anxiety is much better. My depression is much better. I think a lot of anti-depressants carry a seizure warning. As with any med. You just need to out weigh the risk with the benefit. If it is making your seizures worse for I would call who ever prescribed it and talk about other options.
 
Hi there :) I have been on citalopram for about a year now, slowly ramped up to 40mg. Granted I was not having seizures at this time, this has only recently started, but there has been no concerns expressed about the link, the only think my doctor has warned me about in all of this is stopping it suddenly could cause more problems so to keep taking it and they will keep an eye on things. ((hugs))

You should let your doctors know. The citalopram may or may not be the cause of your recent bad seizures, but it's certainly a possibility.
 
This is the first anti-depressant they have put you on right? I'm glad they are trying something because I know you have been struggling. It sure doesn't hurt to ask your GP. Even a phone call? Don't worry about calling too much. Helping people is their job...they just don't always get things right immediately.

i seemed to get the impression off facebook that she has not started them yet, just worried about the possible problems when started
 
Ah, sorry about that! If you have concerns, it can still help to double-check with your doc, and find out if there's anything you need to watch out for. If you get the go-ahead, pay attention to how you're feeling, and make a note in your seizure/health journal if things are getting worse.
