Hello, I have just joined today, so surprised most of your posts relate to me its great!
I was diagnosed with epilepsy after I went to the doctors asking why I was getting these little tiny jumps, Which I wasn't really fussed about, he put me on medication & I had my first fit!
$ years later after getting rid on the seizures that I believe the drugs started, my tiny jumps have turned into huge convulsions, after being on loads of types & quantities of medication, I am just tired of relying on medication which is really doing nothing.
So I was wondering if you many had other non drug treatments I could use? I was reading a lot about magnesium?

Hi Kirsty, welcome to CWE!

I'm sorry that the medication made things worse -- unfortunately that can happen for some people. There are alternative approaches, though it's rare that they can replace medication altogether. Here's a link that goes over some of the alternatives: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/index.php?p=alternative-treatments

You might also be interested in this thread http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f32/neurofeedback-rebeccas-story-2733/ by CWE member/moderator RobinN. Like you, her daughter found that anti-seizure meds made her seizures worse. Robin investigated alternative treatments including neurofeedback and dietary modification, and her daughter is currently seizure-free.

It sounds like those tiny little jumps are actually seizures, myoclonic seizures. That is why the dr. put you on medication to begin with. So the medication he put you on wasn't controlling these type of seizures (I refuse to call them fits, a child throws a fit when angry) and they have grown into convulsive type seizures, which sometimes takes a different medication treatment to control.

But in answer to your question, there are other non-drug treatments here on CWE other have used.

It does sound like the twitches could be seizures.

I've been on a ton of different meds through the years trying to find ones that work for me. I was on one (maybe more?) that did cause me to have more seizures instead of reducing them. It all depends on how your body reacts to the med if it's going to help you or not.
