Hi everyone, my name is steve and my real chinese name is Tan Soon Chye. I am a singaporean diagnose with epilepsy. The reason why I register to join in this forum is because I know how an epilepsy patient when they suffer another round of epilepsy. I would like to share my experience with you all first hand and that is myself
My first epilepsy attack.
I remember I am around 16 years old (I am 30 years old now), I am watching TV and suddenly I feel terribly giddy and I went up to my mum and say I am giddy and I fainted. When I woke up my mum told me my lips turn purplish and is foaming. After the same attack(I forgot when) happen again, my mum and my dad took me to the hospital and the doctor says I had epilepsy.
For first four to five years I am on medication. I remember clearly it is brownish pills and I had to take two every night. Initially it was ok, I can live life as normal and the attack frequency is once per year. But had to say I am inconsistent and in fact stop my medication for a period of time before the attack came. Needless to say, I was punished with a real attack. Why? Because I bit my tongue and a flow of blood came out. It sucks, I hate the acid taste in my mouth and the pain I had to confront to each time I eat porridge or rice or ANYTHING HARD!!!! Seriously it sucks. As I finish my studies and got out of national service to find a job(National service is a military service which all singaporean males had to perform for 2.5 years currently it is reduced to 2 years), like others I had trouble landing a good job but managed to get one trainee position(Because the economy is very good that time). But that time, I am still on western medication and it is seriously affecting my sleep and yes the signs of epilepsy attack NOT the attack is affecting me. I cannot play my favourite dota for more than an hour and I can't sleep well. This cause my frequency to increase from one-two per year to two per year. As my trainee period last for a year, I am very worried as I had sent more than twenty applications and most did not reply back. The ones which call me told me to wait. Anyway fast forward, I am grateful to my current company who did not mind me condition. Anyway, this is when a recommendation from my uncle saved me and helped me changed my life. At that time, he has been learn chinese medication purely for the sake of knowledge purpose. Through his interaction with the teachers, he learnt that epilepsy can be treated using either chinese medication OR accupunture.
