My husband has E he had his first tonic clonic when he was 25 yrs old. He is on Trileptal which has been working great so far but recently he had 2 tonic clonic's in a 3 month span which is actually not too bad but for us it is rather close together time frame wise as the last one before these recent 2 was 8 yrs ago!! He was seizure free for 8 yrs! so as you can all imagine the 2 within the last 3 months kind of made us wonder what may have changed, he has recently gone to the dr and they increased his dose of Trileptal so now it's just sit and wait and hope that it controls them aswell as it did before.

It's nice to meet you all.

Welcome Ladybug

Glad you could join us. Get comfy & enjoy some coffee

My recommendation to figure out what changed that might increase your husbands seizures is to keep a schedule of when he gets up & goes to sleep, when & what he eats, when he takes his Trileptal, when he moves his bowels & anything else you think might have an effect & of course when he has his seizures.

I do & it definitely makes it easier to track what might cause my seizures though a lot of them I'm still trying to figure out.

Meanwhile check out the site, this is probably the most informative place I've been to re. epilepsy & the people are extremely helpful & supportive.

Hi ladybug! Welcome to CWE. :) I went for close to 20 years seizure free (except the odd breakthrough one when exhausted..) and then suddenly started having seizures once a month....Then I switched onto an different med (recently got pregnant.) and now, no seizures...it may be that your hubbies med no longer works for him. It does happen. Wait and see if the upped dosage works. If not, he may need to switch meds. But definetely check out the link Bernard suggested, and have your hubby start keeping a journal of the following:

1. Food and drink (what he eats and drinks, when, how much....)
why- because low blood sugar can trigger seizures...as well as too much caffeine
2. Sleep (how many hours uninterrupted sleep is he getting?)
WHy- sleep deprivation is a common trigger
3. stress (Any sources of stress and what he does to relieve stress...)
why- stress is a common trigger
4. Odd feelings (odd smells/tastes/sounds/feelings/smells, migraines..when do they happen and for how long?)
why- these might be auras
5. Any seizures (when, how long they last, where, and what he was doing prior....)
6. OTC meds...

By using the journal, you're looking to see if there is a pattern...if there is anything triggering the seizures...and it might be something small, like a fever when having the flu...or maybe using an antihistamine during a cold....or even low blood sugar (that triggers me...and I have a history of dibetes in the family, so I definitely need to watch out for that....)

Hope this helps. :)

Hi, hello

and how do you do. It's very nice to meet you!

Welcome to CWE!

As you have no doubt discovered already, this is quite a cool place to be, and Mr B has built us an AWESOME home here. So kick off your shoes, sit back and have the coffee Eric made--it's actually pretty good! :)

Sorry to hear about the breakthrough seizures, but the advice you've been given is quite solid, so I can't really add to it.

Enjoy your stay!

:hello: Ladybug!

Welcome to CWE! And unfortunately, I am sorry to hear
that this is all happening with your husband! It is true that
Epilepsy can disappear (go into remission) and then reappear
later on in life; but Neuroscience have not yet fully understood
all of this but still researching for answers. Hopefully the Doctor
he is seeing currently is doing a full work-up on your precious
husband! There could be other health related issues that
very well may have triggered seizures that are not really
Epilepsy related which solely is another factor; there are a lot
of things that can be an issue. So having your husband be
seeing by a Primary Care Physician for a full work-up will not
be a bad idea there as well, just to make sure he's solid as
a rock in all areas and all the bases are covered to rule out
any other possible factors that "may" have been possibilities,
such as diabetics, cardiac, pulmonary, etc. All these things
will also help the Neurologist / Epileptologist whomever is
treating your husband.

Also keeping a log of the things that have happened when he
does have events, such as what did he eat, do, and so forth
as well as the time, date, and so forth. And if he overdid every-
thing or if he had a lot of naps, for every little thing does help!
If he is working, did he have a lot of overtime, and is all stressed
out and overly exhausted when he returns home, and then *bam*
all of a sudden ---> seizures had returned? Stress, tiredness,
and being exhausted without sufficient enough sleep and rest
can be triggers for seizures itself.

These are mere examples that I have put here to give you
some generalized perspectives and insights. And here's to
a better future for you and your husband!

Hello ladybug,
nice meet you welcome to the forum.
He was lucky to go 8 years seizure free, seizures change and increase over the years I know mine have I don't know how many times.
There's not always reason for it either, because it can just happen your sz's changing.
